Hard West

Lived up to expectations so far. First noticed it when it was on kickstarter, but waited until it developed more. The combat mechanics are nice. The graphics are great. Only got through the first scenario, about 5 missions I think. The missions/levels are not long, but enough action to make them interesting and require some thought. The voice acting is great, Never thought I'd care about that in a game, but it's really good. The card system is good to let you choose perks for each of your guys. The loadout page is pretty easy to figure out after some trial and error with moving inventory into each characters slots. The map layer of the game was somewhat confusing and figuring out what I had to do and what order was best. Maybe it will get clearer on the next scenarios. I hope that they decide to open it up to modding or they release some additional missions via dlc at some point.

I have been having a lot of fun with this game. Very happy I backed it on kickstarter, and am looking forward to the next offering by Creative Forge.

What can I say? The decision making system in this game is very minimalistic, yet very, VERY well done. You can really emerge yourself into the main protagonists of the game. The combat is XCOM brought to perfection. Tactics is key, but it's not like the game is ufnair in its difficulty. Soundtrack is awesome. It really fits the mood of the game. I highly remommend it.

A good system of tactics, rich variability, very interesting stories. But in the game there is not enough depth and integrity at all. Scenarios are too different in the style of the narrative. The stories of the heroes are filed scraps. There is no feeling of improvement in the process. Heroes are constantly changing... And nevertheless, the campaign and the DLC were quite interesting. Weird west -- weird game...

At it's core, it's essentially a modified X-COM: Enemy Unknown (minus the overwatch ability). Hard West is a tactical turn based adventure, set out across several different campaigns, some of which, are completely separate from the main story, but are still fun to play and have interesting stories as well. The game's difficulty starts out fair, then gets harder down the line until you better learn the mechanics and get better gear. HW does have permanent unlockables that are gotten by purchasing certain items/weapons in a campaign specific shop, or exploring/dialogue decisions or some other, and sometimes, just given to you (I think) in which you can then later buy unlocked items/weapons from a certain merchant when available, thus making later campaigns/replays a lot easier, especially when getting your hands on a certain wondrously overpowered rifle. It also has a bunch of world map exploring/micromanaging elements that differ from campaign to campaign. This game also has some supernatural tones (Hint: It's kind of like The Darkness invaded a western, but more satanic) as such, your character makes a deal with the devil whether you like it or not, and you gain supernatural powers in the form of tarot cards, which can be equipped on any of your characters to provide bonuses, abilities, or both. Cards can also be put together in a certain combination on a character for even further bonuses. Overall, a pretty cool and challenging turn based western experience.
