FREE TO PLAY THAT’S WORTH YOUR TIME
A fair and fun progression system turns the effort of building a competitive collection of cards into pure pleasure — simply collect new cards to build decks with as you play GWENT; no strings attached.
STUNNING, ALL ACROSS THE BOARD
Beautiful, hand-drawn art and mesmerizing visual effects breathe life into every card, battle and battlefield, making GWENT fun to play and every duel a joy to watch.
SKILL BEATS LUCK
Crush the enemy with brute strength or outsmart them with clever tricks — no matter your deck, GWENT’s unique round-based gameplay opens up a world of strategic possibilities to play with when fighting for victory.
MORE THAN ONE WAY TO PLAY
Whether it’s a quick online game against a friend, a highly competitive PvP challenge, or something new and wildly adventurous like the Arena, GWENT’s selection of game modes has got you covered.
EASILY SATISFYING, ANYTHING BUT EASY
Sling cards from your deck across two tactically distinct rows — melee and ranged. Gather more points in the duel against your opponent to win a round. Win two out of three rounds to win the battle. It won’t be easy, but no one said it should be.
NO HOLDING BACK, NO HOLDING HANDS
You start with 10 cards from your deck in hand, able to play each card right from the start. It’s up to you to open the game with your strongest unit, or save the best for later in the fight. How will your deck look and what will your strategy be?
The game requires an online connection to play and offers optional in-game purchases.
Quick background, I have been playing strategy games all my life as well as card games (MTG, and Elder Scrolls Legends). I started playing gwent at the end of the open beta (September 2018). This games has impressed me quite a bit.
You can find better discriptions of the gameplay in other reviews, but overall the "passing" mechanic has been a unique and fun part of the strategy in this game. It does a good job of not only making you think about your current move, but the rest of your plays for a round and for the next rounds. Other than a few minor things (see Harald the Cripple and shield) it has good witcher-verse lore and feeling to it. The "commanding an army" feel is right and fits for each faction and their abilities.
The overhaul from Homecoming made the game smoother, more dynamic, and easier to look at. The main thing is that CDPR has been engaging with the community and update/patching things at the correct speed (1 major patch a month with bug fixes here and there). It has helped keep the meta varied and interesting and continued to improve the game. The future looks bright for Gwent and I hope the good times keep rolling!
Gwent is my favorite digital card game right now. It's different, it is interesting and it is constantly improving. The monetization is also quite generous and getting to the point where you can play with a top tier deck is a breeze.
A great game with awesome graphics, very generous, with a deep gameplay, and a development team that is always listening to its players: the latest patch has shown it well. By giving players many more mulligans, they no longer need to concentrate so much to avoid unnecessary cards and can finally show the full power of their deck. If you like deep and complex card games: GWENT is for you.
Did I say that the game is incredibly beautiful with perfect Witcher musics?
I played now enough hours to get a got glance at Gwent. And I have to say that I enjoy the game so far. It has great mechanics and is really free to play friendly. I buy the startet pack but nothing more an have already a fairly good collection.
The game seems like the addicting magic: the gathering and other such, even seems technically well made for the most part, being quite beatiful and running well, but the lack of control in the initial phases where it does not even allow you to properly exit the application, those unresponsive and unintuitive parts of interface, the fact that tutorial does not bother to inform you that you are still in it and that it generally does not guide you, tutor you, is off putting - I mean, losing in a tutorial without possibility of a rematch, without so much as information as to what you are doing wrong? Honestly, the tutorial is so bad that it made me angry with a game for the first time in 15 years. If the initial part is remedied, it may be a great game but being as it is, I am not going to waste any more minutes of my precious time. For me either of the two solutions - repairing or removing the tutorial phase and giving me back the joy of exploring the mechanics would work well. By writing this review, my experience with this is finished.
