Still running Windows 10 right now, but my PC's specs are far above the recommended for this game. This plays perfectly fine for me and is pretty fun. Worth the price I paid (in my opinion) and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a decent arcade style battle racer.
The game is really fun and looks wonderfull. But the track designs are sometimes unforgiving, to clunky and sometimes confusing. The handling of the vehicles is ok, the physics is great. But there is no possibility to strife when choosing a glider. You can also not avoid a tracking missle from behind and a deflector is something you have to collect and keep just in case. The game is very fast and with the confusing trackdesign you often end up in space and you have to reset the vehicle with no speed at all while the opthers blast away and leave you behind. There is no Option to upgrade your vehicles besides the shape and color of the wheels and tires, some stickers and some wings - but thats about it. Doesnt effect the handling what so ever. The destruction derby mode often lets you search for weapons that you can only use once like in a mario kart style and then your opponents are very fast and far away so you sometimes hit your opponents maybe two times before the round ends because it ends way to early while in elimination races you have to drive like 10 minutes before every one is eliminated unless nobody hit you from behind and you end up faceing the other direction on the ceiling falling down while the camera tries to understand what just happend as well as you and you reset with 1/10 of the potential speed way back onto the track to slow to make the next jump and the race is over in 2 minutes. I can say that there was a lot of potential wasted and the game was released way to early, tracks that are confusing while you are being attaked from behind with accurate physics, 0.7g gravity, and sometimes no track borders that keeps you catapulting into a rock over and over again while you lead the race until 10 seconds before the race would have been won crushes the will to try that track again and move on. So a missed opportunity to redefine the genre but still fun and very nice to look at. If you have tendencies to become seasick, I warned you.
Very nice game, I would advise to use game pad, lot of command are easier with game pad I think.
but i'm also disapointed: the multiplayer game is limited to split screen (up to 4) . I miss a least a lan multiplayer game
It's a great combat racer with flipable cars and a great soundtrack to boot.
There are multiple racing modes with most of them having pickups like a cart racer. There are things like
lock-on missiles and machineguns but also utility stuff in the form of rear shields and boosts. The racingmodes varies from races with only boost pickups, to a combat race where being at first place does help but being more spectacular like airtime and shooting, and hitting, will give you lots of points. Also there is a deathmatch with associated maps with it.
The cars aren't super grippy and while the vehicles can drive upside down and stick against walls it doesn't mean going full throttle and let it roll will do it. Speed is important but certainly with the more technical tracks braking before a corner can make you faster. Also you can customize the appearance of the cars from certain liveries paintable in any colour you like and changing the rims and tyre looks. Also the hover variants of the cars the engines are changeable between two types. This is all cosmetic however.
The tracks are varied, from a simple bowl to a technical city scape and then on to a failed terraforming planet with all kind of tubes to race through. It's a delight to see.
It can however be tricky to race some tracks for the first time and miss to see to where to go. The markers are there but just because of the speed an chaos that can occur you might, or at least I did, missed it sometimes.
Also some tracks have turrets when in a combat racing mode which can be targeted and taken down for that race and depending on the mode gives you extra points.
The music for me hit the spot. It's mostly some harder type of drum 'n bass so if you're into that you're good. It does fit the high speed sci-fi racing setting so even if it's not totally your thing I think it fits in.
Having read all this, some might think of another game of old: Rollcage. This is basically a spiritual succesor and in my opinion quite good!
