So good that it should only be sold by personal appointment with the author so he can vet who is worthy to play it. Truly a peer to the best roleplaying game ever made, Wizardry 7.
i don't care if i sound elitist but not everybody will be able to understand how amazing this game is.
it's like wines. take someone who has been drinking poor quality wines all his life, offer him a bottle of one of the finest Millesime wine, he'll never be able to tell you how good it is, because he won't be able to understand what he is drinking.
it's all about educating, training your palate so you can fully appreciate the finest bottles of wines.
same goes with any kind of art, and video games.
i first played crpgs like 2 years ago. i couldn't appreciate how great games like fallout, baldur's gate, arcanum were. never played that kind of games before, i couldn't understand why people loved them so much.
so i started my "education" playing oblivion, skyrim, the witcher 3.. i then gave a chance to morrowind, even tho it looked too old for me at first. loved it. then i started playing older crpgs, and i loved all of them. spent hundred of hours playing bg1 and 2, arcanum etc which would've been impossible a year before.
i remember the first time i discovered Grimoire, it was like a years and half ago, i was like "why would ppl play this"? and now here i am. fully capable of enjoying Grimoire, and it might one the best experience i've had.
the game looks old? so what? you only hear that kind of crap in video games. never heard anybody complaining about how the beatles sound old, same goes with cinema. unless you're 12, everybody enjoy old movies and records.
no idea why people playing video games are so close minded. they always complain about the fact that people who don't play games, and medias, don't have any respect for video games, but in the end they don't even show any form of respect in video games themselves.
"it looks dated" they say. never heard anybody saying that the renaissance paintings looked dated and that we should appreciate modern art instead.
Purchased on and played on Steam.
Deep character and party customization, with strategic gameplay implications from each race/party choice.
Great exploration and puzzle solving.
Changing up your party for a new replay would give you a sufficiently different gameplay experience, so this has high replay value. Somewhat irrelevant for this review, however, as a single playthrough is ~100 hours, so if you're wondering about whether or not to replay it after 100 hours, you probably already got your $10 worth.
This game was not engaging to me, even with the massive party size the progress against the first enemy that came up was so slow.
If it wanted to be like 'old games but better' (says something like this on the splash screen) then it would have the manual incorporated into the main menu or even better, have tooltips. This makes the game feel lazy to me.
Character creation was very opaque too, you don't get to assign individual points - it doesn't even tell you the number of spell slots as you select the spells for your class, just click blindly until you run out!
I guess if what you liked about old games was their lack of intuitiveness then this is for you but if like me you prefer Might & Magic, The Bards Tale and Legend of Grimrock then just skip it.
Awsome Oldschool, but cant play because its not German
Play a while, but understand nothing
not my Language :-(
Its like Wizardry 7, best game ever
