Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge
Prepare yourself for a journey of epic proportions as you embark on a quest to retrieve a powerful artifact--the magical pen known as the Cosmic Forge. Its writings affect both Time and Space, allowing its holder to rewrite reality itself! Build your party of six companions, determine their skills, professions, and stats and enter the ancient castle where you’ll find treasure, armor, and powerful magic items to advance your quest. Meet the fortress' wizened and cryptic dwellers who hold secrets that must be unearthed and solve the riddles and puzzles that abound. Beware, however, as you and your party of stalwart adventurers will encounter countless dangers, hazards, and creatures of dazzling and terrifying form. Only by using your magic and skills, ever growing as you progress, can the dangers of the dungeon be vanquished. With over 400 items ranging from armor to weaponry researched for authenticity to the tactical combat structure, with Primary and Secondary attacks, Wizardry 6 stands tall against any and all RPGs.
Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant
You thought the adventure was over? It has only just begun! Import your characters from Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge or begin anew with a party of adventurers who’ll conquer the rigors of a strange alien world. You’ll discover both friends and foes as you search for the long-forgotten secret of a madman--the mystery of the very universe itself. You won’t be alone in your quest, however, as other adventuring groups are after the very same goal. Choose your actions wisely as there will be consequences: if you anger one person, be prepared to fight his friends later! From the depths of a dungeon to the blue and limitless skies, you’ll see it all in Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant.

Finally! Wizardry 6 and 7 are two of the best crpgs ever made. Complex character generation system, huge world, challenging gameplay, entertaining story, the mix of sci-fi and fantasy elements make these games memorable. Bane of the Cosmic forge is a great beginning for the Dark Savant saga with innovative ideas that remain in the sequels. Crusaders of the Dark Savant is probably the deepest, toughest, meanest crpg ever made. If you want to spend hundreds of hours and you're not afraid of some challenge, then start with Bane, continue with Crusaders, and then buy Wizardry 8. The best part? You can finish the trilogy with the same party you started with. Need a good advice? Fairy ninjas are awesome and being female can be a huge boon.
These two parts of the series have everything the earlier parts already had: Not quite ordinary Races and Classes to choose, turn-based and challenging combat with interesting spells and a basic attack technique model, as well as a huge dungeons to explorer.
Beyond that you get a huge world to explore, a compelling and interesting storyline with tons of side quests, races gathering in factions (whose allegiance towards your party depends on your actions) and... Well, what else could you want? I spent the whole winters of 1990 and 1992 in these two games and so should you. There was nothing similarly worthwhile in the years between this and Baldur's Gate.
Wow, I loved wiz7. I spent hours and hours on this insane game. There are still character editors out there that work and you will probably need it.
The good:
Great classes, huge world and a good story that lets you almost play the game however you would like.
The bad:
Far too many random combat encounters! I love RPG's and prefer the older classics here on GOG. So how can there ever be too much combat? Play the game and you will see. Moving through the huge world becomes so tedious when every 3 - 4 steps you hear the infamous combat sound. I still cringe over that sound clip. Many times I spent hours to fight and get to one new city/area just to find out I needed something somewhere else or somewhere I have been which becomes a huge pain because of the HUGE, HUGE number of random encounters. My solution was to use a character editor to make my party uber-strong just to move from area to area and then set my stats back to where they should be to continue the story.
It was tedious, but something about wiz7 kept me playing. Overall a good game to play and you will certainly get your monies worth in game play time.
Crusaders of the Dark Savant, the seventh installment in the Wizardry Saga, is my favorite game of all time - the one game I have played time and time again. It is a party based rpg with a huge world to explore, plenty of dungeons to plunder, and highly imaginative races to interact with. The creatures you come across in this world are challenging, and the arsenal of weapons and items found throughout the game is epic. The turn based combat is fairly intuitive, but takes a while to master. I will say this - this is a game that you can't breeze through quickly. Pay attention to the text and details of the game or you will find yourself very frustrated wandering around.
The edition sold here is Wizardry Gold, which in my opinion is better in every way except that it does not have all of the same original music. All in all, this is a steal of a deal at $5.99 so don't hesitate!
One of the best RPGs out there! Wiz7 is even much better, but I would recommend to start with Wiz6 for completeness and great fun as well. Make sure you google for *Cosmic Forge* editor and Wizardry forum on postcount dot net!
