Description
Enter an apocalyptic fantasy world where humanity is on the brink of extinction, iron is valued above gold and trust is hard earned. This ARPG features complex character development, hundreds of unique items, crafting and quests with choice & consequence.
  • Dual Class - Combine any of six distinct classes with over 25 skills and modifiers per class. Base classes include Soldier, Demolitionist, Occultist, Nightblade, Arcanist and Shaman.
  • Hundreds of Item Skills - Augment your class build with a diverse array of over 250 unique skills granted by items and equipment add-ons.
  • Collect hundreds of Items - Common, magical, rare, epic and legendary classes of loot. Plus over 20,000 possible magical affix combinations and over 200 rare affixes.
  • Quests with Choice and Consequence - You will face tough decisions that leave significant impacts upon the world. Strangers on the road, desperate families and even entire villages may live or perish based on your actions. Currently over 35 quests with 75+ lore notes to be collected.
  • Friendly and Enemy Factions - Earn favor with human factions to unlock additional quest lines, vendor discounts and special faction-based items and augments. Some neutral factions can be turned into allies but aiding one will make the enemy of another. Hostile factions will remember your deeds and deepen their hatred of you, sending out large packs and elite heroes to hunt you down.
  • Devotion, an additional layer of skill customization allows you to acquire bonuses and powerful secondary effects for your class skills. These are unlocked from a giant constellation map with points acquired by finding and restoring destroyed or corrupted shrines hidden throughout the world.
  • Rebuild the World - Help human enclaves survive and flourish by securing vital necessities, rebuilding structures and rescuing survivors who can then lend their services to your cause.
  • 4 Person Multiplayer - Connect with Friends or make new allies in glorious multiplayer. Multiplayer encounters will put your teamwork to the ultimate challenge.
  • Fast-paced Visceral Combat - Enemy blood spatters, ragdoll physics and satisfying enemy death effects. Smash in doors and fight house to house, leaving a path of demolished furniture in your wake.
  • Rotatable Camera - If you choose to survey the full beauty of the world and always fight from the most optimal angle. Levels are still designed so that players are not forced to rotate the camera; it is purely optional.
  • Secrets and Perils Abound - 200+ Enemy heroes and bosses, hand-configured with their own unique arrays of deadly skills. 20+ secret areas hidden behind crumbling walls, hidden gaps and mysterious locked doors. Explode obstacles or repair structures to open new paths.
  • Rogue-Like Dungeons - Descend into special locked challenge dungeons that require a rare crafted key, where enemy levels increase as you progress and player teleport is disabled. There is no way out except to complete the dungeon or die trying.
  • Dynamic Weather - The world is brought to life with region-specific climates and a variety of weather effects. A sunny day can cloud over with mild rain showers that builds into a booming thunderstorm. Variable wind gusts blow grass and affect objects like windmills.
  • Recipe Based Crafting - Collect over 250 crafting recipes that allow you to combine salvaged components into unique crafted items and then, later, use those basic crafted items with higher-tiered recipes to complete items of amazing power.
  • Reclaim Skill Points - The ability to pay to reclaim points alleviates the fear and frustration of having to make early, uninformed skill choices that could permanently gimp a character.

Probably My Favorite ARPG

I don't personally enjoy online service ARPGs like Path of Exile or recent Diablo games. I accept that some recent ARPGs like Path of Exile are good, but my personal favorites of this genre are offline friendly and prioritize single-player experiences. At first, I played the crap out of Torchlight 1 and 2. But then I discovered Grim Dawn. This game has an outrageous replay value and build variety. The sky is the limit for the type of class combo you want to experiment with. Grim Dawn Is incredibly well balanced and all builds are capable of completing the game. I have sunk hundreds of hours into this game and haven't even attempted new game plus yet or end-game/max level content because experimenting with new builds is just too much fun. Legendary/super rare items are very uncommon, yet super powerful and not nearly as impossible to obtain as Torchlight 2 legendary items. Itemization was masterfully done in Grim Dawn and each legendary item are incredibly rewarding to obtain and useful to multiple types of builds. The DLCs and expansions are very fun continuations of the main game and are essential to enjoy Grim Dawn to the fullest. They're well priced and totally worth it. However, if you're unsure if you'll enjoy them, just try out the main game first. You won't miss out by waiting to buy the expansions later. As a little bonus, Grim Dawn is optimized pretty well. It draws most CPU power from one core, so a good CPU is recommended. But it is perfectly playable on super old hardware, GPUs and Operating Systems. During the hundreds of hours played, it hasn't crashed once during gameplay (only occasionally on startup with the Item Assistant mod/utility, but never while actively playing). I highly recommend Grim Dawn to any ARPG fans looking for insane replayability, build variety and great itemization. As a little bonus, it's still actively updated and maintained.

You will probably like this game.

I must have put lose to 1000 hours into diablo 2 growing up. I got Diablo 3 after RoS and thought it was great, for the most part. After playing this, I have a really hard time playing any other ARPG. I enjoyed Titan Quest. Torchlight was ok, for about 10 hours. Bastion was a fantastic concept but, again, it got old. Grim Dawn is the only ARPG that I keep coming back to. At 241 hours I only have 14% achievements because I'm an altoholic. I beat the main story twice but still have yet to touch ultimate. Even as a filthy casual, all I can say is that if you're not sure about this game, be sure. Whether you just wanna romp around and slay trash mobs or you want to min-max to the point of absurdity while geeking out over gear and set pieces at max level, GD with scratch that itch. If you're like me and trying to rekindle that feeling of excitement about a game in this genre when everything similar just feels stale, there's a very good chance that this one will make you say "FINALLY" out loud.

Favorite ARPG I ever played

Lots of customisation, interesting skills and builds, moddable. Enjoyably dark setting and relative freedom of exploration thanks to large maps, some quests with multiple outcomes. A few minor personal troubles regarding crashes and perhaps a slightly perfectible balance, but overall one of the best videogame I enjoyed this decade.

Everything Diablo 3 SHOULD of been.

This is THE ARPG to play right now. Fast, frenetic combat, insane detailed levels of loot, it is everything i had hoped it would of been and more. Back in 2012 i jumped in and bought the Loyalist Edition (it was 85 dollars back then) because i saw the potential this game had. Well fast forward to today and it has become THE ARPG i wanted to play. Think of your character as all dual classed, make hybrid classes, summoner-ranged, or go all melee, the possibilities are fun to explore. The sound effects or combat sound fantastic and the game is really quite large. The loot if so much fun to discover and craft yourself. The devotions are special extra abilities you unlock that add fun changes to combat. The developers Crate constantly strive to make the game better and push out significant updates regularly because they LISTEN to the fan feedback. If you enjoyed Diablo 2 and played for year this is THE game to play, think of them as Blizzard North (they even have one former member of Blizzard north on there dev team). You will not regret your purchase, play it and see with GOG's money back guarantee. Play and enjoy!

Stands out from the rest.

Finally a worthy succesor to the Diablo series. I really liked this type of games at the time Diablo and Diablo 2 came out, but until now no other game came close to how it felt to play them. I tried to like the Torchlight series, Path of Exile and Diablo 3, those are good games, but they lack the things that made this type of game interesting and fun for me. If I compare Diablo 3 with this, in Diablo 3 I don't have the feeling I am creating my own character, it does not give you options basically, but on Grim dawn, it gives your lots of options as you progress, you can choose the type of skill tree you want, distribute your skill points between skills those two character categories, choose which character stats you want to upgrade, and plus another type of skill tree called "Devotions". Plus you can upgrade your customize your equipment with special items. And the stats of the equipment really matter. Not like in Diablo 3 where you just use the ones with the highest number. In GD I really take my time to read the stats of all weapons, because they have to fit with the type of character I am building. There are many equipment characteristics and stats to pay attention too, plus unique skills they can give. Making decistions is really interesting and involved in this game, something I was really missing. I think this game stand out from the rest, it's very different from the others, and I fully recommend it to all fans of this game, or even if you never played one of these, it's one the best games I have ever played.
