Fantastic RPG so far

so, im only a few hours in, but by this time i had already run into a bug with Bethesda's Skyrim. Can't say that about this game. it's very well polished thus far. I noticed they focused less on certain aspects to really hit hard in other aspects. For example, the world doesn't move around you, like a lot of games will. If you run through grass, nothing will move with you. But, you've got a giant world to explore, so it's ok if the whole world doesnt revolve around you. Then character customization, there's extremely rich dialogue so far throughout the game, but relatively limited character customization as you can't make a fat person. You're just limited to presets. And then, of course, there are items that are a bit more middling. Crafting is extremely simplistic, with items having preset upgrade restrictions, and the skill tree isn't anything ground breaking. it's very simplistic in its design, and goes with the more simplistic combat which has so far been a lot of hack, slash, and dodge. None of this is a bad thing. It all amounts to a VERY POLISHED (thus far) game with lots of quests to do, companions to interact with, LOADS of places to go, and non-frustrating, non-clunky combat. Realistically so far, the only issue i've had is the lack of information about playing the game. Like, my companions cry out for needing healed, do i just click on the health thing and they'll get the potion? Is a Naut outfit just a sailor's outfit? Yes, it is. I wish the information panel in the game provided a bit more information on these things. But, between the giant maps that are done like Baldur's gate or Dragon age, the rich dialogues, non-clunky combat, open skill trees, minor crafting options, and decent character customization... This game is truly fantastic. I honestly hope they sell a whole lot of this game so they decide to make more of this game. They just did an excellent job, overall. Get this game if you like open world RPGs, 100%

Good, but not great

There's a lot to love about this game, but it lacks severely in what makes a great rpg great. - Fantastic presentation. Visuals, music and sound design are great. All areas whether it's a cave, city, forest or inside of a house all look splendid and are well designed. This makes you excited to explore areas, however this carries almost no reward at all. Most areas don't contain anything of value except for a nice scenery. There is no loot, no hidden (as far as I know) areas and no interesting side quests. - The world and story are very interesting, however the story in my opinion falls a bit flat towards the end. - Enemy design is boring as heck and enemies are recycled over and over. You will spend most of your time killing either humans or generic monsters. When you finally get to face off against some sort of boss it usually only has 3-4 moves that it spams, and these bosses are also recycled multiple times during the story. This gets even worse towards the end of the main storyline. - Unreal amount of fast travelling between areas to complete generic side quests. - Your companions are for the most part pretty interesting well written, but after you've completed their side quests they serve almost no purpose for immersion or gameplay. They control themselves in combat and never offer any new dialogue options. They also rarely engage in banter unlike companions in games such as DA:I and Pillars of Eternity. - Lackluster equipment and skill tree. Very few options for upgrades, customization and cosmetics. tl;dr: A general lack of depth plagues this game. It might be worth buying for a single playthrough for visuals and world alone, but I wouldn't bother playing it again. This game has a lot of potential and I'm sure that the next RPG Spider releases will be an instant classic. Tips: 1. Play with a controller 2. Get a graphics mod (SweetFX) that removes the ugly brown filter that takes away from the otherwise amazing visuals.

Good Game, needs some work

This game is like a cross between the Witcher 1 and Dragon Age 2. It's like the witcher on the scale where your decisions shape the world you are in. Dragon Age 2 mainly because of the map in my opinion. I love the story, it's different. It's a mashup of mystery like you're a detective with all the elements of an rpg. The fighting takes a bit getting use to. my thumb kept pressing the space button in the middle of battle which pauses the game. I'm use to jumping with the space button. There are a few cons of which I cannot give this game a full 5 stars. -I love the romance but it felt a bit rushed. -Unless I missed it, there is no first person option. I play mostly in 3rd unless I'm aiming at something. -There isn't any jumping in the game. Unless I missed it, you cannot jump. -All of the houses on the outside look good but once inside they are all cookie cutter. With a dash of paint on the inside, all houses and manors look alike. -The streets look a bit empty at times. If you bump into someone, there are no reaction like the npc stepping back. -Night and Day cycles but npcs have no schedule. You can walk into a house in the middle of the night and the npc is up. -no in dept character customization. You are sort of preset with whatever character that's there. Even with with the list of cons, the game is still quite enjoyable. I would still recommend.

Greedfall

I loved the game (near finishing..but still playing). I have missed this older game style so much! I did find about three things causing me gaming stress/pain though. 1) Need faster walking/running or a mount (my shoe leather and W key area bout to fall off from slow plodding) 2) Get rid/make optional the camp that pops up when you transition regions 3) Turn the blasted legend off on the map, it's always in my way. These are so annoying that I will rate it one less star than it deserves. Otherwise, buy it if you loved the older game style mentioned, they did many things very well. So far I haven't found a place that the game is blocked because you didn't take XYZ, there's always another way which may cause rep loss, or make you fight something you could have skipped. The story line is good, though it seems (as expected) how many different things can happen to affect mainline quest. I'm almost at the point that I'm tired of ten requirements before I can advance quest again. (sounds sad, but it's like when a book forces you down a rabbit hole for 10 chapters before you get back to the mainline...if you understand that). I will attempt to keep an eye on this publisher going forward, as I did really enjoy this game, despite issues.

For fans of the old Bioware

Flashes of what Bioware used to do. Interesting world, acceptable characters, good writing. Combat is p. good, similar to Technomancer. The only thing I hated is how p. much any hit from any creature sends you flying so after a while your character feels like a helpless ragdoll. Who thought that was a good idea? Apart from that it's p. fun. It can't really measure up to the best and brightest in the open-world-ish RPG genre like Witcher 3 or Kingdom Come but it's a perfectly serviceable and mostly enjoyable RPG.
