Once again it is up to you, the nameless hero, to unite a torn land; Myrtana is not faring well. The peace between men and orcs, already built on shaky foundations, is crumbling to pieces for good. Gorn, the new ruler of Gotha, is raising an army and is sending wave after wave against Trelis, where the orcs have gathered behind the banner of their leader Thorus. The ruler of Rhobar frets on his throne, unsure if he should take sides in this conflict--and if so, for whom should he fight? Silden and Geldern are suffering under the skirmishes. The inhabitants are asking if Gorn has lost his mind and who can stop him now. Not only that, but you're not popular at the moment, as the promised peace of a thousand years has been exposed as a deceptive dream. Regain the trust of the settlements and their leaders, discover why the wars are brewing, and unite the quarreling empire once and for all!

Not at all a Gothic game. Don't get confused by the name and visuals. Bends the story of Gothic, makes your favorite characters unlikable. This abomination shouldn't be here and especially should not be sold by Piranha Bytes themselves!
THought maybe I'd like it because I don't need my RPG to be fully action packed to be worth playing, taking the reviews with a grain of salt, but man.
Maybe you REALLY LOVED 3 and wanted to revisit your favourite places? Well it's not that either. I don't know why this is.
If you loved Gothic 3, like on a level where you can't stop playing it and were looking for a way to never want to play it again, y'know like something to snap you out of it, this is the cure.
WHY IS THIS?!?
As many other comments mentioned, some quests are so buggy that some people can't finish the game.
I'm stuck at Soma's quest, he wants 10 magic ore blanks and he says they can be found "anywhere", but after 10+ hours on the game, I have only three.
Using the debug mode to give myself 10 magic ore blanks does not work, since it seems that as pointed by a comment in Gamespot forum: "Quite often, quest items are specific and they are in fixed locations. If you get those items by the wrong method, it will break the quest until you have the items from the right locations".
Problem is, this quest is a main quest requiring to be completed to carry on with another quest given by Kan, which requires to be completed to carry on with... (etc.)
So basically, in this game, the fate of all Myrtana depends on a smith too lazy to go fetch his own raw material that supposedly can be found "anywhere" but are actually a pain to find. And I don't have the patience to explore the whole map and find every single chest and every single merchant to get those (especially since some people mention the same bug even though they've found more than 10 without any cheat).
In order to save people's time and money, the story of this extension is:
After you finish Gothic 3, Nameless hero goes somewhere with Xardas, your old companions control different places of Myrtana, Gorn and Thorus end up fighting against each other, you fight against and kill Xardas over a disagreement on what to do and wake up in Silden as weak as when you start Gothic 3, now you're supposed to reunite the land again and become the new King (if Soma is kind enough to let you).
Now you can move on to Arcania: Gothic 4.
I give two stars because the game was okay until this bug.
I was going to write about the world, about the quests being interesting and funny, about the combat and about the no-holding-your-hand map and about the in-game music, and other stuff, as I did in my Two Worlds games’ reviews (games that were/are constantly judged unfairly too), but I don’t care.
I was going to comment negatively about the Orcs being necessarily the bad guys, but I don’t care.
I would try to convince you about giving the game a chance, but I DON’T CARE.
All I care about is that there were days that I was playing for 4-5 hours straight, without moving from the chair, and that means something to me. That “Gothic feeling” is here!
