Gothic II: Gold Edition brings together the excitement of Gothic II and the add-on Night of the Raven to your fingertips!
You have torn down the magical barrier and released the prisoners of the Mine Valley. Now the former criminals of the forests and mountains are causing trouble around the capital of Khorinis. The town militia is powerless due to their low amount of force–outside of the town, everyone is helpless against the attacks of the bandits.
Over 100 thrilling missions on the different settings
A detailed, lively game environment with over 500 individual characters (each with their own daily routine)
The player determines the course of the story himself
Fight with more than 200 different weapons and magical spells
I started playing this and realized it was playing very sequel heavy. I quit and played Gothic I. Playing Gothic I first was the right decision. This is a great sequel, unfortunately the first few seconds of G2 was filled with spoilers for G1. Do yourself a favor and play G1 first. Warning: some assembly required, you will want to learn how to optimize the game with current player patches and some ini. file changes. It's a PITA but well worth it, and results in nearly modern graphics that run with modest requirements.
The best of the Gothic series by far. An all time favorite for me. For its time this game was amazing. Happy to see others finally enjoying this game. This has everything your looking for play it. I did I for years on end you won't regret it.
I've been playing theese two games since release, basically every year till now. One of the best games ever made, but it should NEVER be sold at a price this high.
Don't get it unless you see it at 5€ max, not a single cent more. This greedy move is unacceptable.
Dunno why I missed the Gothic series when it was released - I play RPG since ages and played all the great classic ones, from Bards'Tale to NWN, still play BG2 with a ton of mods, Wizardry8, M&B etc.
So I just discovered the Gothic series here, bought the game 2 days ago, costing less than a pack of cigarettes here (7$ with Jowood promo is less than 5 euros). Since then I spend my nights on it !!
Really superb story background, nice enough graphics (just adapted to my old system!), tons of NPC with dialogues, lots of things to do, and most of them logical - no stupid puzzles.
The combat system is quite frustrating, sort of like Mount& Blade but much less convenient, but I can't refrain from trying again when I got beat , so it's not that bad ! The tjing is that not only the PC starts weak, the player also starts uncompetent in fights, so both have to "level up" and it gives a sense of achievements.
My only complaint is with the really bad interface, that can discourage many people (like 99% of players I first thought I had a problem when the menu appeared with .. no mouse pointer ! In a 2004 game !!). The manual is rather bad too, so using the interface is a trial-and-error thing, and you must understand the games basics (combat, skills, magic) either through experience or by Web searches.
HC players can live with it, change the controls, more casual players will certainly be pissed off. But they don't come here at GOG lol !
