You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something's not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company.

Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family's lives by investigating what they've left behind.

Go Home Again.
  • A Personal Story: created by veterans of the BioShock series and the writer behind Minerva's Den, Gone Home offers the rich, nuanced details of one family's struggles to deal with uncertainty, heartache, and change.
  • An Immersive Place: return to the 1990s by visiting a home where every detail has been carefully recreated, and the sounds of a rainstorm outside wrap you in the experience.
  • No Combat, No Puzzles: Gone Home is a nonviolent and puzzle-free experience, inviting you to play at your own pace without getting attacked, stuck, or frustrated. This house wants you to explore it.
  • Fully Interactive Investigation: discover what's happened to the Greenbriars by examining a house full of the family's personal possessions, and the notes and letters they've left behind. Use your powers of observation to piece together a story that unfolds as you explore.

Short and sweet.

I personally really enjoyed the game over all. It was well written, and very unique as how the story unfolds as you explore a house. The puzzles are not hard and just more of a scavenger hunt. But i thought it was worth the ride. I enjoy story driven adventures, games like "the longest journey", "Anna", "Syberia" and "Blade runner", to name a few i have enjoyed immensely. All of which are much longer than the 2 1/2 hour play it took me to get through it. To me "Gone home" is me, like a good movie it was well worth my time. The game also has a very 90's collage vibe to it, so if you wen't to school around then, it really captured that part well. I'd give it 5 stars had the game been longer with more puzzles, But being so short, I'm deducting one. over all, defiantly worth the ride if this is your sorta thing.

One of my all time favourites

I was really kind of surprised and disappointed to see all the negative reviews on here, though in retrospect I suppose it's not too surprising. This game is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. There's basically no action, not much suspense and honestly not a great deal you'd think of as "gameplay". Nonetheless, I absolutely loved it. The way the story is presented was innovative and engaging, and I found the story itself quite moving. The environment is beautifully created and detailed. Yes it's not a long game (neither is Portal, but if you didn't like that then I can't help you), and it's obvious from the other reviews that your mileage with it may vary significantly. But at the very least I felt obliged to note that there are people out there who loved this game, and you just might be one of them.

Enjoyable game, if you are old enough

Short summary: Only buy it, if you like games focused on stories and exploration. I really like the game in its narration, visual style, music and some of its heart-wrenching plot. You won't be disappointed if you have the "correct" age (you should have been about the age of the protagonists in 1995) and can relate to their feelings. There are also some minor, not really resolved subplots, but sifting through their belongings, touching stuff from the past, closing the eyes and hearing the soft music ... it's like a dream. On the other hand, if you expect some action, horror, fighting or some hipster stuff ... don't bother to buy it.

Nice, short and not for everyone

Searching the house for clues of why is everybody gone has a great atmosphere. The story is told by notes and pieces of diaries and is compelling. There is no combat and puzzles, so the game is quite different to what people usually expect. If you enjoyed Dear Esther, you will most likely like this one too. Unfortunately the game is very short for the price it asks. I bought it when it was on sale for 5 bucks, and that is fair price, yet I dont think the game is worth 20 bucks, since you can finish it in one evening even if you take your time.

Can be finished in about two minutes.

First of all this thing is hardly a video game. There's absolutely no gameplay to be had. All you do is run about a house, look at object and listen to some tart talk about the most meaningless and boring trivialities you can fathom (seriously, the kind of people that consider this good, touching or meaningful have to be mentally ill). The story is quite literally garbage about a lesbian but apparently that's a bold move that automatically makes this a "masterpiece" that tries to be all touchy touchy feely wheely but fails miserably. You can also finish this in about two minutes, even less if you're fast. The asking price for this trash is insane. You'd normally expect this kind of shovelware for free somewhere on newgrounds. Do yourself a favour and stay away from this, and if you really want to subject yourself to this boring, uninspired and shallow garbage just pirate it and don't waste your money.
