You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something's not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company.

Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family's lives by investigating what they've left behind.

Go Home Again.
  • A Personal Story: created by veterans of the BioShock series and the writer behind Minerva's Den, Gone Home offers the rich, nuanced details of one family's struggles to deal with uncertainty, heartache, and change.
  • An Immersive Place: return to the 1990s by visiting a home where every detail has been carefully recreated, and the sounds of a rainstorm outside wrap you in the experience.
  • No Combat, No Puzzles: Gone Home is a nonviolent and puzzle-free experience, inviting you to play at your own pace without getting attacked, stuck, or frustrated. This house wants you to explore it.
  • Fully Interactive Investigation: discover what's happened to the Greenbriars by examining a house full of the family's personal possessions, and the notes and letters they've left behind. Use your powers of observation to piece together a story that unfolds as you explore.

Not for the young or immature

This is a fantastic game, but probably not for everyone. When I say it is not for the young or immature, I don't mean that the themes in it are inappropriate, I mean that the subtleties this game presents will be completely lost upon them. This isn't a first-person shooter and you don't launch birds at pigs. Instead, you find clues that flesh out stories, stories that aren't just spelled out for you. If you cannot read a book more complicated than Harry Potter and follow its plot, you will not enjoy this game. However, if you can understand and appreciate the complexities of human relationships you will probably enjoy this game, immensely. Especially if you remember the 90's firsthand. That being said, I took one star off of this game for the sole fact that the price is a tad hefty considering this game has nearly no replay value.

Mandatory play

I place the experience of playing "Gone Home" somewhere between "Stanley Parable", "Braid" and "Among the Sleep" as one of those interactive stories that made me go home (heh) and rethink my life. Just like the best movies or books do. More like that please!

Masterpiece

This game is wonderful. Don't put specific expectations on it, just give it a chance and play it. If you like stories and characters that can make you feel, if you like to be transported and immersed, and if you can take your time with things and not prejudge, I guess you will like it. Even more if you where born during the 80s. If you look in videos games for cool gameplay mechanics, or ways to defeat the game faster than the developers intended, or to achieve high scores and that type of thing, you will probably not like it. I loved it. 5 Stars hands down. I wish there where more games as brave as this. Best played in an introspective mood, with no rush and plenty of time to spare, and alone during the night.

Unique and touching

Games normally have you saving the world and going on heroic adventures in a chance to briefly escape reality. Gone Home is not one of those games, you don't save the world, the world doesn't even need saving. The story stands out because of how real it is. It makes you feel attached to the characters and will touch you more than most other games have. The gameplay is incredibly simple. You walk around the house looking for clues as to what has happened while you were gone and where everyone is now. The main story focuses on your sister Sam. She has left notes for you and various other diary pieces that explain the events that have happened to her. many of the letters left by Sam are accompanied with voice overs by Sam. Items that aren't left by your sister you have to read yourself. This may fool the player into thinking that the game is just about Sam. While she is the focus and her story is the most fleshed out, there are lots of smaller stories about the other family members. Rather than being read out to you when you pick up a note, you have to piece together their stories yourself using clues you find. As the game is set in the 90's, you'll find Nintendo games and many other pop culture references. It's a nostalgia trip for that time in your life where you are still discovering who you are, and the difficulties that went with it.

Motivated my recent weight loss

Walking Simulator 2013 is a great fun game where you can walk around and read things and pretend that there are ghosts in the big house. It was a pretty good motivator for me to get my lazy fat ass off the computer chair and out for a walk in real life. The walking physics are very realistic and will make you want to try walking yourself. Highly recommended for ppl who want to take a walk.
