You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something's not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company.

Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family's lives by investigating what they've left behind.

Go Home Again.
  • A Personal Story: created by veterans of the BioShock series and the writer behind Minerva's Den, Gone Home offers the rich, nuanced details of one family's struggles to deal with uncertainty, heartache, and change.
  • An Immersive Place: return to the 1990s by visiting a home where every detail has been carefully recreated, and the sounds of a rainstorm outside wrap you in the experience.
  • No Combat, No Puzzles: Gone Home is a nonviolent and puzzle-free experience, inviting you to play at your own pace without getting attacked, stuck, or frustrated. This house wants you to explore it.
  • Fully Interactive Investigation: discover what's happened to the Greenbriars by examining a house full of the family's personal possessions, and the notes and letters they've left behind. Use your powers of observation to piece together a story that unfolds as you explore.

A step forward for video games

A step closer to video games breaking out from their juvenile phase to become a true art of storytelling. While Gone Home is far from perfect it still serves to show video games can be more than just fighting and violence. There's no major twists and the story isn't exactly deep, but it's decent enough. The music, the atmosphere and voice acting truly hits the spot, but the genius of Gone Home lies more in what can be done rather than what has been done.

Woke garbage.

One of the OG's in the vein of walking sims filled with progressive nonsense made by activists to indoctrinate people into their cult.

Fantastic

Firstly, calling Gone Home an "interactive story" would be more than accurate, because it's not really a "game" at all, so if you're planning to buy Gone Home and are expecting a "game", you're going to be sorely disappointed... That said, Gone Home is still well worth the purchase, and I highly recommend it. Sure, you won't be running through this over and over - but there's plenty of atmosphere within the game, the story is touching and if you grew up in the 90's, you're in for a boatload of nostalgia - I've run through Gone Home dozens of times, and often I do so just to explore or for the nostalgia! Admittedly, Gone Home isn't for everyone, so have a read of the reviews here, watch the trailer, search for some videos online and see what you think before you make your purchase... I liked Gone Home so much so that I have purchased a copy in another PC game store, in the PlayStation Store, via the developer's web site (though that purchase was for the CD soundtrack) and here (so I can have a DRM-free copy) - but each to their own.

Unfairly maligned

This was one of my favorite games last year and I know this sounds really pretentious, but I just feel like some people didn't get it. I feel like Gone Home did a lot to make the interaction meaningful in that you approached the story at your own pace, Not to mention the pitch perfect 1994 aesthetic. It felt like (corny title drop) going home, really. combine that with a truly engaging story and you got an incredibly immersive game. The other big criticism people throw at the game is that it's only 3 hours long, which is true. But I don't see a problem with that, it's not like I haven't payed up to $25 for a DVD before. Buy it on sale if that really bothers you. But if you really can't stand the idea of a game with zero violent stabbings, or you can't get your head around a game where you don't have to play towers of Hanoi for the 50th time to unlock some door, than this game is not for you. And that's fine, but don't go around telling people it's the worst game ever just because it's not your style. I don't tell everyone sports game are awful just because they're not my cup of tea.

I love it!

Gone Home is a really great game. Sure, it might be a so called "Walking Simulator". However the story of the game is good and it's touching. It also has nice easter eggs towards the 90s pop culture and other fun things to find. I would recommend everyone to play it through at least once.
