Description
A comedy cosmic horror adventure made in Transylvania.

Darkham, with its crooked gambrel roofs, dark alleys, and a past shrouded in secrecy, never really was a welcoming place, but nowadays? Kooky cults are popping up everywhere, and that most evil book, the Necronomicon, is spoken of in trembling whispers once more.

Detective Don R. Ketype is on the case to retrieve the mysterious evil tome, but unsuspecting librarian Buzz Kerwan stumbles upon it and accidentally transforms his cat, Kitteh, into a walking, talking abomination. Being humanized? Quite a downgrade.

Gibbous is a comedy cosmic horror game - a modern adventure that is classically inspired, features gorgeous HD art, detailed traditional animation, and a lengthy story that will see the three protagonists travel around the world and deal with abominations both cosmic and human-made, voodoo, and Things That Should Not Be. From Lovecraft Country to Transylvania, set off on a quest to get a very cynical cat to stop talking.

• Over 60 hand-painted, detailed environments inspired by Transylvanian architecture and nature;
• Fluid traditional 2d animation with a Disney-esque look and feel;
• Two protagonists and a talking ca--- Okay, three. Three protagonists;
• Upwards of 70 fully voiced, crazy characters;
• Special guest appearance by Doug Cockle, voice of the Witcher;
• Contains most genuine Transylvanian accent in games and media, like, ever;
• Over 4 hours of lush original soundtrack featuring live instruments;
• A lengthy cinematic story that spans continents and more;
• Moment to moment humor, darker arching plot;
• Dynamic lighting, real time reflections and weather system;
• Integrated hint system to help you when you’re stuck;
• Fully animated cartoon cutscenes that punctuate important story beats;
• Over 12,000 voiced dialogue lines;
• Custom voiced responses for all the crazy combinations you can think of;
• Lovingly made near Vlad the Impaler’s birthplace;
• No cutesifying or making fun of the Old Ones, praise their Dark Names;
• Did we mention the talking cat?

Fun game, outstanding classic animation

Disclaimer: this is the first Kickstarter I don't regret backing. Gibbous is a traditional Point and Click Adventure game in the vein of Lucas Arts' genre-classics (particularly Monkey Island). It takes place in a Lovecraftian world that doesn't take itself too seriously (a combination that strangely works to very good effect), and adheres to the traditional P&C gameplay formula to a fault. When playing, the first thing you'll notice is the absolutely top-notch graphic design and animation. The backgrounds are incredibly detail-packed and beautiful, the characters full of personality and expertly-animated. In this regard it equals or surpasses classically animated greats such as Curse of Monkey Island (whose style it closely resembles). The sound, music and voice-acting are also very good. Gameplay is brisk and fun as you go through an increasingly deranged globe-trotting adventure that largely succeeds in keeping your interest throughout. It boggles the mind this is the product of the work of a three-strong studio. It's a labor of love (and five years of hard work) and it shows. As minuses, I'll have to mention that puzzles generally are too simple (as has sadly been the trend in modern adventure games), the game is somewhat short (which is natural as puzzles are rarely roadblocks), a small part of the voice acting feels stilted or unnatural, there are some instances of millennial moralizing, the ending sequence feels a bit rushed and the story doesn't have an entirely satisfying wrap-up. But truly, this is nitpicking for such a solid first product from a small outfit. If you enjoy classic cartoon animation, Lucas Arts adventures (particularly the Monkey Island series), the Lovecraft mythos and/or cats, this is for you.

The experience was worth every penny.

It's been a while since I enjoyed an adventure game as fun as this one. I started my first adventure game experience back in Monkey Island 1 in the 80s. This game plays like those old-schooled adventure games. The art is simply amazing and the voice acting is superb. The puzzles might be kinda easy, but I would say they are just right for beginners of the adventure game genre. I applaud the develop team for blending old school genre with lovecraft mythos so well together.

Humor & Style 5/5, Story & Mechanics 3/5

This is a great game if you are longing for the good old sharpe tounged humor found in the classic lucasarts games. Usually adventures nowadays try to be funny but fail. This one doesn't disappoint! The art style is just fantastic. Great art, animations, music atmosphere. The gameplay is pretty straightforward and there aren't any really tough puzzles, and mostly it is just very basic and obvious item combining. Also, i found the story kinda hard to follow, kinda forced and convoluted towards the end. That being said, there are many great and unique characters which i thoroughly enjoyed listing and talking to - very nice! For 20 bucks(!) a definitive must buy for anyone adventure fan who can do without a brilliant plot.

One of the best recent Adventure Games!

This game is very good, I am surprised but the quality of this release - especially the great Linux port. It avoids nearly all the pitfalls of the classic Point & Clicks, and the riddles and puzzles are just right. Great artwork and voice acting too. Nice characters, cringe-worthy momnets are nearly absent. Highly recommended, it's in the same league like Unavowed, Shardlight or Whispers of a Machine.

To me the best game in a loooong time!

It's always a mater of what you're into, but for me this game hits all the right spots and gives me the feels i formerly only had during games like Monkey Island, or when I was younger during lenghthy animated movies. Graphics are just a pleasure and I found myself smyliing at the screen in awe of the beauty, just as amazing is the sound, gameplay, many things to look and interact with (always a different dialogue!). I can't wait for a sequel, I hope there'll be one! P.S. If you liked this game as much as me, I think you'd also like the "The Jouney Down" games, they remind me of this one regarding the atmosphere and way it's done.
