Before man climbed down from the trees to shop in megastores and drink cappuccino, before the Earth wadded itself into a cool blue ball, before the Moon even existed, there was the Island. The Island, a massive fragment of a long-lost planet, hurtling blindly through space. Upon the surface of this paradise wanders the giant, Kabuto. Little does Kabuto know that the Island was home to others before him. In the oceans, there dwells a matriarchal race called the Sea Reapers. In their pride, they created Kabuto, as a defense against intruders. But Kabuto became conscious of himself, his loneliness, his pain - and he went berserk.
Space castaways, the Meccs piloted their ship through space, looking for their missing friends. If you haven’t guessed already, they ended up on the Island. Faced with yet another unscheduled layover while on their way to Planet Majorca, the Meccs decide to make the best of their temporary home. Just their luck - the natives are already embroiled in their own little war, and the Mecc visitors are most unwelcome!
Meccaryns... Sea Reapers... Kabuto... One island isn’t big enough for the three of them.

I played this when it first came out and while I had some vague memories of the gameplay, the thing that stood out the most was the humour. wow. Some great lines and physical comedy had my literally laughing out loud.
After that the game takes a bit of a dive as the controls aren't always precise and the actual setting is....well.....odd.
But in the end I did finish it gleefully to watch every cut scene, and it is a game that will stick with me forever as being memorably funny.
This game took me by surprise when it was released. The humor was very different, the large open levels, and the different gameplay types from the 3 major parts of the game. From flying around with your jetpack, to stomping the ground as the giant - this game is just fun.
The graphics are not as impressive now, as when it was released, but I don't think it takes much from the game.
The multiplayer part of Giants is also very recommendable! Here you choose from the different classes, which again has different types of gameplay. Playing the "marines" you have to build/expand/repair/upgrade your base, along with the regular FPS action. However, I haven't tested the multiplayer part of the gog.com version yet..
I very well made FPS with quirky British humour. Can be quite challenging at times if you're used to a more linear style shooter but once you get the hang of the gameplay you'll wonder why you didn't pick it up when it first came out.
This game was an absolute blast. Aside from the great dry British humor, the gameplay was fun too. It was a nice mix of real-time strategy lite and third-person action.
Where the game *really* shines though is with all nine players in multiplayer. With 5 Meccs, 3 Sea Reapers, and 1 Kabuto in a 3-way team match, it's very well balanced and just a ton of fun. Absolutely worth buying. I'm biting the bullet even though it only states Vista compatibility and not Windows 7 - I'm hoping it still runs on Windows 7.
I didn't think i'd enjoy this game again so much. I love the story, weapons, and even graphics, which are now a bit dated, but still maintain their charm. I hope many more people will enjoy this game. :)
