I own the CD of this fun game which I had bought years ago.
I had ton of fun then. Now, this game is a great addition to my GOG library.
It is amusing and silly at the same time. It was a very unique game and I have never seen anything like till date. Give it a try, I assure you, it will an imprint of a lifetime on your memory.
I played this game around the time of its release, and it's been one of my favorites ever since. Ghost Master is like a movie from before the CGI era—it doesn’t rely on high-polygon models, crisp textures, or a hyped-up soundtrack. Instead, it stands out through strong character descriptions, humor, clever references, and engaging gameplay.
One of its best aspects is the role reversal: you're not the hero—you’re the antagonist. You collect ghosts, hear their stories, and gradually develop a distaste for “the mortals.” It builds sympathy for the supernatural, which is rare in games.
Are there flaws? Sure. Graphically, it shows its age. But that fades within minutes. The sound design, writing, and gameplay hold up, especially if you enjoy strategy games with a sense of humor.
To me, this is one of the most underrated games ever made. It deserved more success—and a sequel. A remaster feels unlikely, but I still hope. If you like horror, comedy, strategy, and a touch of the macabre, play this game. You probably won’t regret it.
Ghost Master is a pretty unique game where you manage ghosts to scare people or accomplish scenario goals.
Some clankiness is present but I guess it is part of the charm.
If you enjoy weird obscure 2000s games get this one on sale.
I was surprised by this game. I did see it in stores when it was originally out but never got it because it didn't seem like an interesting game. Got it because its always intrigued me and now its cheap so no loss if I don't like it.
This game is surprisingly fun. Can sometimes be difficult figuring out how to accomplish tasks but altogether its really just a fun game where your supposed to scare stuff and there's a few puzzles along the way. Its not a terrible game, and has surprisingly good graphics. Its worth it to check this game out, it really is fun to play. I think this game failed commercially due to advertising like the guy who developed it has said, that seems to be true as this game is nothing like I thought it was.
Looking at the box long ago, you'd have thought this was a SIMs clone, or parody. In some ways it is but it uses its own conventions to make the people scared (or insane if you fancy) and has you put new ghosts to rest that you can add to your team of ghosts for the current haunt. I haven't seen many bugs really (haven't played it all yet) so no complaints there.
Its graphically very pretty (Ala Sims 2 almost) and the music is superbly done. At times it can also be very funny, parodying classic horror movies in titles as well as objectives from time to time.
Overall, its not expensive now so its worth a look if you like decent strategy-esque games with a different flavor of game play than the established norms.
