Gemini Rue

Let me get the bad stuff out of the way. First of all, this game is ugly. Much of it looks like it was made in the mid 1990's and the game occasionally glitches upon loading saves. Also, the interface is a bit clunky and there are a few small plot holes. That being said, Gemini Rue is a engaging, well done adventure game. It draws a lot from Blade runner, while clearly being influenced by Cowboy Bebop and Momento. The story itself follows two characters, one in a prison and one in a very noirish city(which may mean that the ugly graphics were intentional). The puzzles are varied and mostly feel organic, and while you can die, the game autosaves at key moments to allow you to try again. An unusual feature of this type of game is the gun battles, which I haven't seen in an adventure game since Mean Streets. While this may sound daunting, you are trained how to shoot early in the game as part of the plot, the difficulty of the fights is adjustable and the battles turn out to be more about rhythm then anything else. Gemini Rue, despite some flaws, is worth checking out for fans of adventure games.

A nice game, in old school point and click tradition. Graphics are very nice (if you like old-school graphics), soundscape is OK, the story unfolds very nicely, interface is straightforward, puzzles are just easy enough for an interactive story and hard enough to provide a bit of mental workout.

I have just started the game and it's been a non-stop nightmare in interaction design. I'll probably add a complete list later, but my latest entry is: it has accepted my key bindings, but don't actually recognize the keys when I press them in-game, silently preventing me from solving puzzles. Combined with every other amateur mistake in the game (e.g. no v-sync = awful screen tearing in faux 640x480 resolution) and considering the year of its release the engineering can only be described as sad.

As a huge fan of 'point and click' adventure games, I have to say this is one of the best. Compelling ,interesting storyline and excellent atmospheric soundtrack. The extra aspect of being able to shoot in certain situations is a little tricky to get used to , but adds an element to the game which I wouldnt take away . A must for any adventure gamer , or cyberpunk fan's library.

I bought the game from the developert when it was released but lost the download link. So I bought it again from Gog.com! It's that good. Graphics, story, atmosphere. They're all top notch. Some puzzles were quite hard, but I used faq to get through them. That's just kind of player I am, this game can be enjoyed even if you suck at adventure game puzzles. Only thing that I didn't like was sometimes really bland dialogue, especially from the main character (detective). But that is hardly a deal breaker. Otherwise, one of the best adventure games released in recent years and one of the best scifi games ever!
