Gamedec - Definitive Edition is the enhanced version of a cyberpunk isometric role-playing game. You are a game detective who solves crimes inside virtual worlds. Use your wits to gather info from your witnesses and suspects, getting to the bottom of deceptive schemes. The game continually adapts to your decisions and never judges.
Gamedec is a single-player non-combat cyberpunk isometric RPG. You are a game detective, who solves crimes inside virtual worlds. Use your wits to gather info from your witnesses and suspects, get to the bottom of deceptive schemes, save lives, and investigate the extraordinary relationships between virtual worlds and their inhabitants. The game continually adapts to your choices and never judges – You are the sum of your choices.
Welcome to Warsaw City of the XXII century. The Tech of the future is so advanced that the term "real" is relative and "life" and "death" have many meanings. Virtual worlds give rise to problems of the human nature: lust, sloth, envy, and pride. The residents of these virtual game-worlds need specialists – Gamedecs - Private Investigators with experience in those worlds who work to discover the secrets and explores mechanics hidden in those realities for the commission of your clients. You are one of them. You are a Gamedec.
Gamedec emulates the nature of tabletop RPGs by focusing on character development through decision making. Gather aspects and craft your unique set of professions that will allow you to lead invetigations in a way that feets your style. Discover extraordinary relationships between the virtual worlds and their inhabitants thanks to the gathered information in codex.
Like in classic tabletop RPGs, you’re given the freedom to approach situations from multiple angles rather than forcing a single solution – the choice is yours and yours alone.
Gamedec General Features:
Interact with NPCs to gather intel and access different dialogue options depending on your choices, developed profession and acquired knowledge.
Visit numerous virtual worlds - from deceitful farm-like environment, through dark-noir cyberpunk realities to fantasy-based realms.
Use your Codex and Deduction to unscramble facts and evidence to conclude the case. Find your own answer and respond accordingly to your own ethics, integrity or just a sense of poetic justice.
Shape your Character through actions that grant positive or negative effects – Determine how to you want to be perceived by the other by selecting traits, which corresponds to your gameplay style. Develop your own Gamedec through your decisions, choices and actions.
Meet various characters in both Realium and Virtualium that can be friendly, or hostile – depending on your decisions throughout the game.
First off, I wouldgive this game a 3.5/5 if I could.
Second, if you are not able/willing to read A LOT of text, avoid the game. You will essentially be reading the entire time.
Which brings me to a negative. There is some rough translataion and the odd spelling mistake which is annoying. The biggest issue I had though (similar to the game Observer) is everything in the game is based off branching choices. At times, your choice is vague, or it will appear to mean one thing. Then, after choosing it, it was actually a totally different decision. It is so extremely annoying to not know exactly what is meant or what your choice would entail until after the decision.
I am not sure if this is poor game design or because both Gamedec and the comparable Observer are both from Polish developers.
Overall I enjoyed the game. It was around 18 hours for me with a quite a few reloads due to the annoying branching decision/dialogue trees.
The game raises some intersting (although not exactly very original) ideas. I don't want to spoil anything for potential players.
If you are into sci fi, reading thousands of lines of text, can deal with a lot of "how can I be of help" fetch type quests I would check it out. But be aware the game has some very big shortcomings.
Failed the very first puzzle because of a translation/localization inconsistency between the game's Codex and the dialogue options. It's not worth my time to find out if this was an isolated occurrence.
The game is attractive and its mechanics seem well conceived, but I'm not wrestling with a lack of editing when my backlog is so deep.
I was also a little nervous about the fact that there is a jukebox in the main character's apartment and all it could play was ominous ambience. Who wants that playing in their living room? Where is the rest of the soundtrack? IS there a rest of the soundtrack?
Thought from the demo it looked like a good Adventure game with lite RPG traits
While true I did not expect the mini-games though I should have given the theme
Got about halfway or just past that when certain features became too rough namely the whole timed cycles thing with the Hon Clan
I tried toughing it out but had to stop, maybe sometime will try again
Above-average game, with an especially good first act. Worth it on sale, maybe/maybe not at full price, depending on your tastes.
I'm basically writing this in order to advise new players to download the free Official Guidebook, available here on GOG. (If it's the same as on Steam, it will be delivered as a PDF to your game directory.) It's helpful in understanding the thinking behind the game mechanics, particularly when it comes to deductions and solving crimes. HINT: thinking of what are called "deductions" as "possible interpretations" will save you much head-scratching.
