A thrilling, but short-lived experience.
This game is both a thrilling and genuinely harrowing experience. As the leader of a fledgling community (perhaps the last community) in the wake of an apocalyptic event, you must do one thing and one thing alone: Survive. In a welcome change from many city-builders, Frostpunk forces you to think of the greater good at all times. The individual, despite all having names, families, hopes and dreams, must be viewed without sentiment and early on there is a lesson you MUST learn: You cannot save everybody. You can't keep everyone happy. You can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs. The system of laws allow you to balance the Hope & Discontent of your community while adding various social aspects and buildings to the experience. You must find a way to keep the citizenry on your side and hopeful, but also ensure you are pragmatic about the needs of the many. Child labour is unpopular, but expands the workforce. Extra rations for the ill is popular and can speed recovery in your infirmaries, but will see your food reserved dwindle faster. Do you care for the gravely ill at all? or let them expire so as not to drain the community's already stretched resources. The decisions escalate in severity as the game progresses, to the point where a law can cause rioting and death, but the rewards may be even greater should you be able to maintain cohesion. The game looks stunning. The quality poured into every detail of the buildings and surrounding bleakness is beautiful to behold. The UI is sleek and simple to manage, and the building system is actually one of my favourite aspects. The generator is the heart & soul of your city and as such, everything expands from it, interconnected by optional streets which most buildings require. You will start by sending your tiny group out into the snow to manually gather resources, but this is very finite. You must adapt by researching extraction technologies to support your growing populace. As you progress, the option of scout teams and resource outposts give more opportunites to find survivors and other remnants of humanity you can use to survive maybe just one more day. I would recommend this to everyone with the patience to accept failure and the stomach to do what must be done.

Short slightly overpriced enjoyable game
Unique atmosphere and scenario's, I liked playing this game, and the scenario's were unique enough to not feel repetive. The upgrade system (choosing between order and faith is nice, but doesn't offer much in the way of variation since there is only one "right" path. I also liked that next to the building part of the game, an exploration part was present which freshened up the gameplay. I really didn't like that I played through the scenario's and there was one left (and I was looking forward to it) but it turned out to have a "buy now" button instead of "play now".... Please don't let players think there is more content than there actually is by showing unbought DLC content in the normal screens. This game is overpriced at 30 euro, I bought it at 14 euro which is a fair price for the replay value and the mechanics in the game. The DLC should be much cheaper though. Will not be buying the DLC unless 50% discounted (normally over 20 euro for the first two chapters).

First Jay ! Then Nay !
Ok, the game is atmospheric and so on and the mainstory is realy interresting to play. Which kept me hooked on so that I although bought the rift dlc. Which was too hasty cause beside of the mainstory the game sucks. I could live with some strange comments at he games ending...er crossed a line, the city survived...but was it worth it ??? (Yes, 270 survivors say it was worth it. You "§$&&%* !) but then are the scenarios. Each is just like "this" level we all know from most building up games where you have to find out on which ressource to concentrate and build/resarch the right thing in the right order. Thats it. Multiple ways to go through ? Forget it. And, not to forget, while you can still do some things during the blizzard in the maingame, its game over in the scenario. You have 1590 something when the blizzard starts but computer says you need 1600 to survive, well bad luck...you failed your people. Game over. Or the one with the refugees...my fav. Bevore the damn thing even starts game tells me thats game over cause 250 must survive. Ahan....well maybe at the moment it was 249 in the city but 3 fecking trecks were on their way to town. WTF ? Exiting the game I get told that I made the sucsess saving all three trecks. In just glad I bought this game on a sale and would recomend nothing else to anyone. Perhaps if last autumn is on sale for a fiver I check it out but not one buck more.
