In an ultimately frozen world, people develop steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold. The city ruler has to manage both the inhabitants and the infrastracture the citizens live in. Leader’s tactical skills face challenges, frequently questioning morality and the basic foundation of what we consider an organized society. Here optimization and resource management often clash with empathy and thoughtful decision-making. While city and society management consume most of the ruler’s time, at some point exploration of outside world is necessary to understand its history and present state.
What decisions will you make so the society can survive? What will you do when pushed to the limits? And...
...who will you become in the process?
THE CITY MUST SURVIVE
Frostpunk is a city-survival game where heat means life and every decision comes with a cost.
MAINTAIN THE HOPE
Survival is about hope and will to live. Your ability to spark and maintain these two in your people will be a determinant factor for success.
MAKE THE LAW
Society is a group of people abiding the same rules and sharing similar beliefs. Establishing laws and customs will be a crucial factor shaping your society.
WEIGHT YOUR CHOICES
Will you allow child-labour? How will you treat the sick and wounded? Frostpunk challenges a player’s tactical skills, while questioning one’s morality.
EXPLORE
The world covers not only bits of the past but also the potential means to secure the future of your people.
Sweet and to the point here, I was looking for a survival management game and this fit the bill %100 the only thing I am sad about was the lack of maps to play on but they have a roadmap of free DLC being released in the future. I dont regret this purchase one bit
Very good game, visuals are beautiful, music is great and atmosphere is addicting. It's kinda short, but for this price it's definitely worth it. Also, there are quite a lot of DLC on the way.
It's a rare game that I enjoy enough to 100%, but Frostpunk is one such. The aesthetic, the premise, the soundtrack all brilliantly support a fun and challenging game that is as much society survival as it is builder. The main scenario is top notch, and the two extra scenarios add distinct challenges to people who have mastered the first. Highly recommended!
Got this on Amazon, not GoG, when they had a pricing error for a few hours. Have finished the first mission on the easy difficulty. Started first on normal, and then restarted on easy because I wanted less of a challenge and more of a story/experience from this game. It took just over about 8 hours playing total to complete the first mission. It was very fun and interesting. At normal, it is a pretty good challenge, and you need to stay closely engaged. Could already tell after 2 hours that I made poor choices and my city was going to die soon. At easy it is a lot less challenging, which was what I wanted. The game offers good choices to make, I really liked the way choices would come back later with consequences, some minor (just some text describing the result a few days later) some more major (more/less people to work, second order changes in hope, new building options, etc.) There is minor replay value (trying different choices) as well as a second mission. I will most likely play at least 2-3 more times. I feel it is a bit short at full price right now, but on sale I'd easily get it again.
You start with just the generator, and at first it's quite obvious what to do - send people for wood and coal. After the minimal base exists, more choices appear. What technology to invest in? Do I want to build hospitals that need crew, or send those people as hunters to get food? How much time should explorers spend outside of the city before finally bringing what they gathered back to the city, where it will be used? These are interesting questions, and the changing temperature creates even more problems, e.g. should I develop the technology to get more coal, or rather to get more heating? But more heating uses more coal, so... Use automatons to get coal, or better workers, who work faster, but only during working hous? Force them to work 24h? Interesting!
There are however disadvantages to this game, let me mention some:
- I hate socialism, and there's a lot of socialistic thinking in this game. Imagine this: the city is starving, just before midnight hunters finally arrive with food, but it needs cooking. But the kitchen won't open before 8:00 BECAUSE IT'S NOT THEIR WORKING HOURS! Can you imagine this situation in reality? And if I force them to get to work immediately, everyone gets very angry, instead of happy for getting the freaking food. There are multiple socialistic absurdities like this, as if it was a big factory and all the money was going into my pocket. No, guys, we are fighting to survive, stop complaining and get the heck to work, or just go find another city.
- There are some unpolished edges in the mechanics, e.g. I promised high temperatures at homes for 2 days, but it dropped below that level FOR LITERALLY TEN GAME-MINUTES, but folks already got very angry at me and I failed the task. Many similar things.
- Current technology not highlighted when selected, but not yet worked on, because it's night. I was confused at first.
- On my laptop the framerate drops sometimes even on low graphics, worse than on other games, the game also crashed once.
