Freedom Planet is a combat-based platform adventure that pits a spunky dragon girl and her friends against an alien attack force. There's trouble around every turn, from insects to giant robots to sheer explosive destruction, but you'll have a variety of special fighting abilities to blast your way through each stage.

As Lilac, you can use Dragon powers to whip enemies with your hair, spin like a cyclone, or fly through the air at high speed like a comet. As Carol, you can bust through foes with a flurry of punches and kicks or summon motorcycles that let you ride up walls and ceilings.
  • Dash across the celestial world of Avalice with boosts, bikes and other high-speed gimmicks to achieve the fastest time or explore at your own pace to find hidden paths and treasures.
  • Battle tons of quirky bosses including giant robots, towering alien creatures and aggressive rivals.
  • Help Lilac and friends save their world from war in an engaging Adventure mode with fully voiced cutscenes.

I'm excited for the second.

Honestly posting to counter some of the dumb one-star reviews. I love this game as it brings together the momentume-based gameplay of Sonic with the far more interesting boss fights of Gunstar Heroes. The art style is bright and fun, the characters are varied with each of them receiving a unique level that highlights their play style, and the story is fun with some surprisingly dark parts. Possible cons for people include the slightly ridiculous level lengths and the story...both of these I enjoyed but not everyone is looking for a sonic like game with 25-30 minute long levels

Solid Sonic-style game

A very enjoyable Sonic-style platform game. The graphics are vibrant and overall pretty good. Animations are over-the-top and very good too, but in some cases could have used a little more work. Control is responsive, except for jumps. One wonders if this is done on purpose to add a little difficulty to the game? The first levels are original, colorful and a lot of fun to play. After that, they become more maze-like and you're less inclined to explore them. I've seen a number of reviews that felt the levels were too long. I don't agree with that; especially since when you die, you don't restart the whole level. I played the game on normal difficulty and it's not a difficult game, except for some bosses that might take 30-60 minutes to figure out. The game takes around 10 hours to complete (unless you play it again with a different character). So keep this in mind if you buy the game at regular price. Short story: I had a great time playing this game, with its GOG vibe reminiscent of Sonic, Mario and similar games.

16-bit style action

Freedom Planet is a 16-bit style action platformer that takes inspiration from games like Sonic without being derivative. Really fun and apparently it works with Portmaster so I'm going to try and put it on my handheld.

Excellent game

A very enjoyable platformer. It reminds me a lot of Sonic 1-3 on genesis, but with better bosses and a higher level of challenge. The game was a ton of fun to play and the soundtrack was very good.

Grand 16-bit platforming action

A very inspired retro platformer that pulls all its pounches in a very measured fashion. The music is also the stuff of wonders. I only had minor gripes with the physics and the bosses can be a handful at times
