Description
Three adventurers that have met by chance find the Demon Stone, an ancient prison, just as it breaks before their eyes. The contained evil is unleashed and the two wicked spirits of a Githyanki general and a Slaad lord once again threaten the world.

You take control of three heroes: Rannek the fighter, Illius the sorcerer, and Zhai the rogue. Each of them has his or her own unique set of spells. Switch between them any time you want, using their abilities to your advantage. As you progress through the game, your heroes gain levels, learn new skills and acquire powerful items. You will need them all to have even the slightest chance of defeating the ancient evil you stand against.
A new version of the build, prepared by SNEG and improved for modern operating systems, is available on the "Alternate Version" branch in GOG Galaxy, or via downloadable installers. Go HERE for an explanation of how to access beta channels in GOG Galaxy.

Great game, but a little short.

Demon Stone is a familiar hack-and-slash experience to anybody who has played the Lord of the Rings hns games - which makes sense because they use the same engine. Combat is fun, all three characters have their strengths and weaknesses. I ended up using each one about equally. In addition to the standard attack-attack-attack combo, there are a few other combos which can be learned through spending points. Each character plays differently - the fighter is hardy and can take a lot of hits, while the thief excels at hiding in shadows and taking out powerful enemies in a single shot from behind; the mage excels at ranged combat and can attack multiple enemies at once with several spells. Buying items and weapons between levels is a nice touch that adds some replay value. The graphics are a mixed bag. Character models look great, but the backgrounds aren't very impressive close up. I would recommend sitting a bit further away from the screen than you usually would since the graphics were designed with consoles in mind - and therefore won't look as nice close up. The story isn't amazing, but it's reasonably entertaining for the genre. You play as a trio of adventurers who accidentally free two evil beings from a prison. Each character has their own moments of development between stages. Production values are overall great. The music is excellent and always fitting. The voice acting is overall great, but I think they could have found a better choice for Khelben, whose voice actor is a bit too associated with that of Captain Picard. My only real complaint about the game is the length - five hours is all you'll need for your first playthrough. You may play it through a second time to buy different items at the store, but overall the game is a singular experience. For only $10, I would highly recommend this game to Hack-and-Slash fans as well as fans of the Forgotten Realms setting.

Great Story and Fun Gameplay

Patrick Steward narrates the game in the english Version! This game has one of the most enganging openings of any game I've every played, it sucks you right in, and lever lets you go again. Difficulty is spot on between too hard and too easy. Even the grafics hold up somewaht decently. The biggest strength of this game is its excellent pacing. It's exactly the right length for the gameplay it has to offer, and there is just enough quite well written Story and Dialog in between the action to always keep you motivated. I can only recomend Demon Stone, this game has no mayor flaw, but a lot of strenghts. It's that one action game that has been missing from you life so far.

I remember my dissapointment

Giving it one extra star because it was my fault for being suckered into buying it the moment I saw it in the store. Story by Salvatore, Forgotten Realms...setting was nice but hardly any game at all. A complete cash grab by Atari, like those cookie cutter games from blockbuster movies that kept popping up back them. Atari was all about branding, they bought the brand from the corpse of the original Atari and they managed to get a license of D&D/FR from Wizards of the Coast... God damnit why couldn't they have some ambition.

One of the better hack-and-slashes

Demon Stone is a hack-and-slash beat-em-up, and I quite like the system. It uses the same engine as the Lord of the Rings beat-em-ups, except this time with 3 D&D heroes fighting slaad, githyanki. and yuan-ti. Each hero has special abilities and roles to fill. The wizard is the sniper, the rogue is the insta-kill assassin, and the fighter is the tank that gets in the middle of all of it. You can switch between them at any time. The fact that all three characters play a bit differently adds a lot to the strategy. The hero AI generally does a good job, but they are slower to act than when you control them. This gives you incentive to switch to the role that's needed most at the time. There's a lot of action happening on the screen all at once. Sometimes you're fighting a couple baddies, other times there are entire throngs on the screen. The levels are often set pieces with a lot of chaos going on in the background. It makes you feel like part of something epic. If you're wondering if it stays true to the D&D license, it half does. There's no D20 rolling, no "miss" chances, no attacks of opportunity, or pretty much anything from the books. It's best to just let that go, considering the type of game it is. The story seems legit, and IMO is pretty good for D&D. I recommend Demon Stone to beat-em-up hack-and-slash fans, and to D&D fans with an open mind.

Great D&D game

Not in the mechanics of D&D but set in the lore with a fun beat'em up style gameply similar to the LoTR games that came out with the movies.
