Wish I'd read the reviews here

I wish I'd known about the dev no longer updating the game on GOG, only on Steam before I bought it here. It's my own daft fault for only reading the reviews on Steam and didn't think to check them here too. I feel a bit robbed. It's honestly put me off buying another game from GOG since I'm now always going to wonder if devs are going to just focus on Steam updates. Also disappointed you can only get mods on Steam. Other games like Rimworld have ways of implementing mods for different platform users. The game itself is ok. It starts off quite addictive as you're sucked into constant resource gathering. The constant grind becomes quite tedious though and it never really feels like you have a big objective to work towards. I gave up on my game in mid/late game because I was just so bored with it. The combat feels pretty poor and never really feels a challenge. I have some other gripes about the game like the map is too small and you can't zoom out to see things at the edges of the map, especially if you have HUD notifications on. I also get that some resources are meant to be quite rare, but the amounts of some things required for some recipes seems like they either needs to be rebalanced to require less or more needs to be spawning. Too often I found myself just waiting for more of something to spawn. These are things that might get tweaked by a dev who updates their games on all platforms, but I guess we're stuck with.

Short

Well, the game is great but… short, very short. The more you progress, the more the progression is easy, and in less than 12hours, everything is finished. No real interest to replay the game, the roadmap is not so sexy and may take years. That's it : good game but too expensive for so few gameplay.

Charming Body, Empty Head

Forager is in my opinion, the product of a scatterbrained developer. While it has a charming exterior, the inner mechanics quickly give the indication that the development has no focus, the content worsening in terms of overall point and joy the further in you go, eventually becoming a grinding slog by midgame. Given that there are less lands than skills, you can end up seeing all the game has to offer in terms of landmass, without having seen all the content on offer. And in fact, I was only to midtear gear by the time I had decided I had seen enough. Not enough of the systems or mechanics synergize or have reason enough to justify existence, like locomotives. Given scant descriptors and narry a helplesson in sight, many skills and buildings fail to justify themselves for selection. Many of the puzzles and dungeons are awful. To navigate, solve, or otherwise interact with, many of which requiring precision movements or mechanics that the game does not otherwise feature. And then there's the bosses. I have no idea if the developer is into bullet hell or something, but having your bosses spam projectiles/undodgables endlessly does not fun make. One rare but particularly annoying aspect is death. Rather than having a respawn timer or just a button to respawn, you get kicked out to the menu entirely disrupting the flow of gameplay in an absolute. My basic summary is this: If the developer considers taking the time to go back over older elements of the game, and tweaks things out instead of focusing on a constant drumming of new features, perhaps Forager might be more playable in the future. I've given it two stars on the basic merit that it did occupy my time and I do not dislike it.

It's ok

It's a lot of collecting and crafting to progress and survive, the game play is solid but for me the repitition starts to wear after about half an hour with my enjoyment rapidly tapering off after that.

Game itself is good / lack of updates

The game itself is fun to play. The music is nice and I like the graphics a lot. Also it will run on low powered computer. Sadly the GOG version is way behind the steam version and in the discord chat there are no responds to questions about updating the GOG version. Maybe because Humble Gaming is the publisher, which is owned by Humble Bundle...
