Story's nice and the voice acting good. The gameplay is 90's and it made me remember the reasons I despised PnC adventures for so long. The riddles are mostly ok, with some exceptions which aren't using moon logic, but the old school, unfun game mechanics of going (crawling) through every screen looking for somehting you might have forgotten. The second half is so unnecessarily labyrinthical that it kills even the joy of figuring things out by yourself. I recommmend playing with the help of a walkthrough and using Ctrl+F to speed the game speed up.
So impressed with this game! It was so much fun with a ton of scenes and locations. This is right up there with the SIerra & Lucasfilm adventures of it's time. Interacting with the interface is a little different and takes a bit of getting used to but it was totally worth it. BRAVO!
I don't remember when I laughed so much while playing a video game. The game is one big adventure which doesn't take itself too much seriously, it's there to show the player a good and fun time. It is full with likeable characters and jokes. The game was inspired by Monkey Island and Indiana Jones and that is what you can expect.
The puzzles are not very challenging, mostly you need to figure out how and where to use your items, so it is great for people who just want to relax and have fun, or for those who are not very familiar with the genre. I think this is the only point and click adventure where I didn't have to give up and use a walktrough, even though I got stuck once for more than an hour.
If you can forgive the clunky 1995 graphics, this game is pretty good, especially for the price (free). It takes quite a while to get through it. A lot of the puzzles are almost impossible to solve, but it was still fun.
Flight of the Amazon Queen has "B" stamped all over. Dinosaurs, lasers, Amazon women...and what's there not to like about that?
The plot is interesting enough and at the same time linear enough. The characters are credible, and also at the same time the characters are "linear" enough, to fit in the B-class world convincingly. The dialogue is the best asset of this game, there are some really excellent jokes and plenty of interesting options to choose from, and some puzzles can be solved through dialogue only. There is voice acting and it seems convincing enough, at least to me. The other puzzles are mainly quite straight-forward, with a couple of trickier ones on the side. I am under the impression that the protagonist cannot die in this game, which I think also fits the B class style.
One thing that could have taken further development is the user interface. In other ScummVM games using the inventory items takes fewer clicks, and also choosing between different verbs does so. I wouldn't have personally minded if the user interface was a direct copy from some other ScummVM game. Then again, someone else might have minded...
In my books Flight of the Amazon Queen is equally good compared to Sam & Max Hit the Road, Day of the Tentacle and maybe Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade. It is big statement which I am not at all hesitant to make. Highly recommended.
