Description
Firewatch is a single-player first-person mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness.

The year is 1989. You are a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe. An especially hot, dry summer has everyone on edge. Your supervisor Delilah is available to you at all times over a small, handheld radio—your only contact with the world you've left behind. But when something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the forest, you’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.

A Note: Firewatch is a video game about adults having adult conversations about adult things. If you plan on playing with a younger gamer, that might be good to know going in.
  • A stunningly beautiful wilderness environment that expands as you explore.
  • A tailor-made story: the choices you make shape the narrative and build relationships.
  • An edge-of-your-seat mystery.
  • Secrets and discoveries to be made over every hill.
  • Living, breathing characters brought to life by Cissy Jones (The Walking Dead: Season 1) and Rich Sommer (Mad Men)
  • A spectacular wilderness environment by Olly Moss (Illustrator) and Jane Ng (The Cave, Brutal Legend)
  • A thrilling story and script by Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin (The Walking Dead: Season 1, Poker Night at the Inventory)
  • A stirring original soundtrack by Chris Remo (Gone Home)
  • Fluid first-person animation by James Benson (Ori & The Blind Forest)
  • Gameplay scripting and design work by Patrick Ewing (Twitter) and Nels Anderson (Mark of the Ninja)
  • Programming by Will Armstrong (Bioshock II), Ben Burbank (Costume Quest 2, Space Base DF-9), and Paolo Surricchio (Deadpool, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare)

Beautiful, but amazingly short

I enjoyed the game very much, but it was particularly disappointing to come to the end so quickly! That's especially true given how beautiful it is. I actually played through twice; the first time took me 6 hours, the second time (when I made a point of seeking out every unknown location, but didn't have to figure out difficult pathing/access issues) took me 4 hours. So 10 hours total for two complete play-throughs. Given that I paid $20 for it on Steam, I felt that it was massively over-priced. ITM, as far as replayability is concerned, since there is no variation of any sort in the game, nothing random at all, there isn't much reason to play again. If it had been $5, I would have felt it was money well spent. For $20, or even $11 (here on GOG), it's a bit steep.

Interserting but quite short

I really like this game. The graphics are very good, the story is interesting, music is very good, voice acting really great. The world You are about to explore is nice and charming. The story is very interesting and You want to go on and on, to see what's next. The story swallows You, like You really want to be in there. However, as someone else wrote in the review, this would be rather a film, than a game. You choices do not affect the story, there are no difficulties, no puzzles. You just walk and obey orders. there is no space for Your own creativity The end of the story may seem a bit dissapointing, but You have to accept this game is just about things that can really happen in life. There is nothing unnatural. I'v spend few hours playing that and enjoyed the story and environment. However but i do not think i will ever play it again. I would suggest You wait for some significant discount on the game price.

Couldn't really enjoy it.

Had a black screen after the start on Win10, found a solution in the GoG forums. The game was pretty much walking and walky-tanlking around the park, that was OK for me, the atmosphere is nice and I didn't mind the lack of big challenges or frenzy action, sometimes that's what I want play, just exploring the map. The problem is, I didn't want to be in this guy's shoes. The introductory text based questionnaire, that was cleverly supposed to give some background to the protagonist, made him come out as quite objectionable no matter what options you chose. I found that to be a deterrent playing in 1st person and being in charge of his chats with Delilah.

Initial impression nothing like trailer

I saw the trailer and I thought this would be about walking around in the wilderness trying to find Bigfoot or whatever. The first 10 minutes have been a visual novel where I get to walk in short bursts along forest corridors while the game tells me about a relationship I had and shows me a drawing of a fat lumberjack. I am not a fat lumberjack. Does GOG have a refund policy?

Disappointing

(Linux) The game looks nice, works well, and I liked the general theme - but that's where it ends. I hated the sappy introduction (which has no bearing on the game) and was hoping for a somewhat realistic story line from then on. Well, the game may be convincing for somebody with no outdoor experience and a complete cluelessness as to how the forest service works, but if you are even remotely acquainted with that environment - prepare to groan. This turned out to be a wander fest in an admittedly beautifully rendered scenery whilst listening to the ramblings of neurotic chick. This could have been so much more with a bit of research and a better story writer. It's definitely not worth th $20 I payed.
