It is hard... It is fun
You can play it for days or weeks, waiting for a perfect run to beat the game just once.

Phenomenal
FTL: Faster Than Light is a great game. Combination of something like Star Trek: Bridge Commander with Rogue-like RPG. Randomly generated systems and encounters that never repeat and you'll never go through the same game twice. FTL is deceptively simple, you are just clicking on few buttons but there's a lot of strategy and decision -making behind actually doing good in FTL. Managing your crew, specializing them, keeping your supplies of fuel and ammo up and possibly buying upgrades and new ship parts at stores. There's pletny to unlock and also to do. With the randomly generated universe you will hardly run out of fun with FTL. If you at all are a fan of Star Trek and other sci-fi series and wanted to try and command your own space-ship there are hardly any better games than FTL to try.

Great game ruined at the end
If you are a casual gamer or don't have a lot of time to sink, don't buy. You just end up _wishing_ you could play this, but you can't. The game is really nice and addictive. Two things make it impossible for a casual gamer to play it: * lack of save game - you can only save when you exit. And the game gets deleted when you continue. The fans will tell you "but that's the point of the game". Fair enough. This is not such a big deal, though, as the game on easy is not that hard: I reached the final battle on the first play. Which brings us to: * impossible final battle - the first fight with the final boss is good, hard but not impossible. The second battle is way way harder than anything else. The strategies that you may have developed on other ships simply don't apply. You may have to upgrade the ship with a final strategy in mind... I'll never know. You spend a couple of hours to get a chance at the final battle, and you always come with a ship that is significantly different (the equipment you find is chance). Maybe if you do that tens of times, at the end you figure out what can work. I simply don't have the time to do that. If someone wrote a mod to make the end not that impossible, this would be a great game for the casual gamer too. Like this, is just a frustrating experience... :-/

Control Under Choas
Quick! The shields are down, there's a fire in life-support, and intruders have beam onto the ship, What do you do first? This game doesn't let up, and that's good. The UI is brilliant. If your ship blows up, you know it's because of your failure and not the game getting in your way. You get a honest feeling of being a Federal Ship Captain desperately trying to get away from the ever looming Rebel Fleet. The game actually puts you in moral dilemmas where you have to choose between doing what's righteous and doing what's right for you and your crew and without any silly bar or guaranteed result. Now the bad thing is it's short, most games only clock in at 30-90 mins. (of course you could see that as a positive.) Don't get me wrong they all different but after a couple of times through you'll become very versed in all the games scenarios and all they're possible outcomes. That is equaled out [IMHO] by the fact that it can run on even my P.O.S> laptop. A definite BUY
