Far Cry®

Far Cry is a game that broke me. The game is structured in a way that makes it very hard. but not like cuphead hard, which is a difficulty that makes you go "oh, I died, but at least I'm confident that I'm getting better", its like NES era hard - which is the kind difficulty that makes you shout "how did that merc see me from 2km away" and search for cheat codes on the internet. Which is exactly what I did. I made it through the first 19 chapters of the game with only the Save game cheat (by the way, you can't save in this game, the game works with a series of autosaves that you can't control) but at the last chapter was where I drew the line, even the save game cheat didn't help me with it. At that point I was so desperate to finish the game that I edited one of the game files so I would make 1000% damage on the enemy AI, and the enemy AI would make 0% damage on me. I've killed the final boss with a pistol. And no, I don't feel shame about it. Other than that, the game is surprisingly good. the graphics looks nice on max settings (although the human models still look like they're from the early 2000s). the gunplay feels good and balanced, the world feels rich and full (kinda) thanks to the mercs talking to each other from time to time, and I really like some of the mechanics like the binoculars and cry-vision. However, I do feel that the story is very shallow, or that at least it should be shorter. I think I've counted three times that Val was kidnapped, and I've lost count on how many times told that "yeah, you need to go there to exit the island, But just before you do that, could you retrieve a PDA or a bomb or a key or whatever?" or "Yeah, just go there to find Valerie... Oh, she's not there? well sorry Fucko, I forgot to tell you that they moved her to the other part of the island 30 fucking minutes ago, 'guess you'll need to go there, man". Long story short, if you're a Dorito snorting, mtn dew chugging hardcore gamer you'll probably like this game.

One of the greatest fps games of the 2000's, which says a lot. A classic.

(A) If you play this, I strongly recommend you look up how to save anywhere instead of relying on console-style checkpoints. (B) If you want to play multiplayer, BE WARNED you have to create an ubi.com account.

Be warned: The game starts like any other FPS game, but, man, does it get infuriatingly hard in the second half. All of the legends about the insane difficulty spike are true. There are so many unfair situations where you are forced to reload, and reload, and reload till you memorise all of the enemies or get luck. You are often spammed with though enemies (and quite a few times in a narrow room). I managed to beat it (after almost giving up on the last level), and I am sure I will not play it ever again. The frustration is simply not worth the shallow and uninteresting story, the terrible voice acting and cutscenes. The gunplay is quite enjoyable, but other than that there is not a lot of good about this game. Do not recommend. Unless, it is a giveaway or like 1 euro. Save yourself the stress.

This game sets itself out to destroy you. The checkpoints aren't always positioned the best as you can be taken out in less than a second. This even includes playing it on the "easy" difficulty. I could only imaging playing this on the hardest difficulty. I should note that I've played games like World War II GI and NAM and I died less in those games. I know cover is important in this game, but there isn't enough cover when you are swarmed by more than every enemy in sight. It's a great looking game for 2004 standards with nice detail and even widescreen support. The story isn't too shabby either. The sequels seem to be better balanced though, so maybe those would be more my cup of tea. If you're an FPS god, knock yourself out, but I'm not a fan of this one.
