Description
As the leader of the expedition, you will face difficult decisions about the use of your troops and your resources, as well as how to engage with the factions of the savage New World. Will you defy history and be a diplomatic envoy of peace? Or will you be a ruthless conqueror determined to lay all of the Aztec Empire at your feet?

Expeditions: Conquistador is a tactical roleplaying game with a touch of strategic resource management and a pinch of choose-your-own-adventure. Conquistador is set in a rarely visited part of history which is rife with mystery, political intrigue, and good old-fashioned violence.

  • Exotic historical setting with far-reaching ethical implications - balance your relations with the natives against the wishes of your expedition members.
  • Intuitive and flexible turn-based combat system with highly varied and detailed battlefields that will keep you on your toes.
  • Manage the morale, rations, and resources of your expedition as you overcome the dangers of the Aztec territories.

Simply Great.

It's not very often that a game comes along that has something new and refreshing to offer, but here is one that does just that. I really like how the developers have put this game together, yes, there are a few things could have been done slightly better, but overall a game that's all about good game-play, and the game-play is bloody good. I don't often review games, but with this one I had to make the effort. This game has got both heart and soul. Buy it.

Too much political correctness

Game idea is good, although the story and game mechanics is a bit poor. However, what I really turned me off was the political correctness in the game. Not just portraying the indians as good and spanish as bad, but the fact that there is always a 50% of each gender... It is just ridiculous!!! History is what it is, not what we want it to be, and equality as we have it today was not a thing in the 16th century. And to me, this detail kills all the atmosphere of the game. Really sad, cos it had potential.

too short but sweet

Strong: -You can treat the native americans however you want. Choosing a good path actually means something when there is an alternative -the dialogues are mostly well written. -the turn-based combat system is interesting enough to not bore you for as long as the game lasts -the ability to kinda build your own party Weak: -not nearly enough skills for the characters -main story too short -many characters just stop participating in the dialogues when the story advances Stuff you should know: The game is a survival RPG. Managing the resources of your party isn't extremely hard but can be a nuisance for some players. Resources include food, medicin and weapons. The weapons can be repaired even after a long time, when they brake. But wounded characters need fast treatment since perma death is a thing in this game. PS: GoG-reviews rly need more than 5 stars.

Immersion level: hard

I haven't finished this game yet. I'm just playing it for a week (adult life is not very forgiving for playing games too long in one session) and I'm having my head bashed around for that by my gf - but it's just too good to stop playing. Even the ever-classic "it's turn based with autosave, I can stop anytime" doesn't help at all. I won't argue - graphics are out-of-date, bugs are present, combat system and character creation/development is rather simplified. But on the other hand, with most of random encounters and story quests there is one thing that keeps you going: FOLLOWERS. First thing's first - when you start the game, you choose Followers that have main roles (medic, scholar, scout, hunter, soldier). Each of the Followers also has three distinctive perks, which will be their base for interacting with you. They are describing their approach to several things by polarised perks: greedy/altruistic, racist/open-minded, aggresive/peaceful, adventurous/cautious, and so on. Every now and then you get interrupted by some Follower (or several of them) and they give you their advice, confront you on your decisions, ask you about the goals you have, lay out the truth about their past - in one word, they are interacting. And the game describes it so well that in no time I have grown fond or distasteful for each of the Followers in my expedition. I am fully aware that each of my actions and dilemmas may have a strong effect on Follower's morale (if you won't take the prize for completed quest, the Altruistic ones will gain morale, but the Greedy ones will lose it) and it makes me wonder what I really want to do. The immersion is just GREAT. Play it. Enjoy it. You'll see - every technical flaw is forgivable when you simply sink into the role of leading the lot into the unknown.
