Succeed in a run to acquire legendary gear that holds immense power and extraordinary abilities.
This was a great progression from the original Rogue Lite Everspace 1.
It reminded me a lot of Wing Commander Privateer from the 90's, and that's a good thing.
Graphics are fantastic, sound and music are great, and th missions keep you going without too much repetition.
I'm glad I backed this project back in the day. It has been fun to watch this project come to fruition.
All enemies scale with you. This is a problem.
At first, It's not so bad, everyone is 1st lvl, occasionally you'll get a lv 2 or 3 guy. But as time wears on, the gap in strength becomes harder and harder to over come.
So when I advanced to 7th level, and have both a lv 8 and lv 9 enemies blasting my ass, with a cloud of of lv 6-7 guys, it's a quick death.
I don't have good enough gear, and can't get it without leveling up and pushing the enemies right along with me.
Balance is a big problem. And all of the good things about this game get sucked right down the drain because of it.
This is more or less what I wanted out of the first Everspace. It has a more structured game world that doesn't rely on complete randomness with the same satisfying gameplay of the original. Gotta do those high-risk missions! Yeah, better gear is nice, but its all about them extra colors and ship parts options! ;) Perfect game for playing around with photo mode, too.
Yup, I'm definitely liking the gameplay, and the story campaign ain't bad either even if the writing seems a little on the contrived side at times. Eh. Either way, I quite enjoy the banter between Adam and his ship's HIVE AI, which can be genuinely funny. The side quests (not jobs) are fairly entertaining as well, and they can provide some great unique gear. When I first heard about level-scaling being in the game I was a bit wary, but it turns out it's actually good thing. Because of it I can be still be kept on my toes in engagements. Without it I'd probably be laying complete waste to everybody, and that would make the game a complete bore.
That said, I always seem to be a few levels above the story missions so they tend to be fairly breezy. It becomes quite comical when Adam proclaims how difficult a time he's having in his radio chatter while I've already obliterated this "very tough" opponent before the dialog has even played out.
I can heartily recommend this one to our fellow space pew-pewers.
In general it is a very good game and a good story so far, but I would say it lags the intensity of the first game and you will also reach a point where you have upgraded all you modules so much that you have a hard time finding any challenge in the fights.
