Great game!! easy to play hard to master

Love this game from evething.. simply if you want diablo with space ships look no further!! controlls are easy to learn but the game is hard to master I would say arcade action that is more in depth than expected. Lotting can be boring but you useually look for opatinitys to explot vs being expolited all the time and combat can vary from waypoint to waypoint as the game. The game is good at changing how you engage combat vs alwalys with fire power if your a wing commnader fan you decent fan your find your self at home with this one!!

Frustration and bugs killed the game.

As other reviewer exposed, the game is quite naive in it's approach to space genre: A rogue like (they said), where you are supposed to die, and where the story reveals a bit at a time. That is fine, but: * Developers assumed rougue-like = frustrating, as it needs multiple runs with unbeatable enemy. * The story bits are revealed but, by the time you progress, you forgot the earlier bits, rendering the puzzle a chore to remember. * Ship combat is interesting, but the sheer limitation in evading enemy attacks, and extremely short range weapons, make up for a frustrating action in repeating. * Beautiful graphics, that makes the HUD impossible to see: enemy and resource blips just disappear in the brightness of the background, adding to frustration that enemies, you could not spot, just start bombarding you. * Useless resource gatering. You spend time to mine ores, for consumables that you barely manage to build, and even less useful to use * Bugs with the pilot perks (persistent across replays), resetting to 0, gave the final blow to this, potentially intersting, game.

Addictive!

Beware! The game is really addictive! Jokes aside, Everspace is one of those games you can't play for an hour. There's always one more run! It's really stable (in 100+ hours of playtime, I think it crashed only once), and it's really gorgeous looking! The level backgrounds will take your breath away when you first boot it up. The story is solid, even if it takes some time to get going. Side missions range from simple and fun to infuriating (yes, Throng! I hate scanning the wildlife!) to testing your skills in combat. On that note. One of the best positives is the combat. It's really fluid, and it takes a little time to get used to it. It takes a bit to remember that you can move in all directions, but once you do get the hang of it, you start to feel like an ace pilot. The variety of ships and weapons (primary and secondary) make for interesting combinations and, in turn, mean that no run will be the same (unless you want it to). Now, for the negative... It can get repetitive, especially after the 3rd sector, and sadly, the beautiful backgrounds and maps aren't always enough to compensate for that. Overall, it's a solid game.

A nice casual game. NOT!

Like many others here, this game frustrated the CRAP out of me and I came close to rage quitting. I'm glad I didn't. This is not a casual, "fly around and look at stuff and blow up bad guys" game. It is not a Freelancer / Wing Commander: Privateer game where you upgrade your ship and get better ships and collect stuff freely with tons of enemies killed and only the occasional boss ship. This is a fighter sim where you will learn to be afraid and live that way. There is no casual play here. From the second you warp in to a sector you are 1 minute away from dying. You need to get used to that to enjoy the game. The dogfights are intense and require you to up your game. You will bob, weave, hide and run. You will learn how to change weapons on the fly and how to use them. You will use missiles tactically. And when you hear the Oskarr are coming you will stop what you are doing and run... When you get into a sector you will look around and do a tactical assessment. Take out some enemies soon if you need to, run to safety if you can't. Check out your ship and see what upgrades you need and what you can get in that sector. Move quick, time isn't your friend. The fun is in the dogfights and the discovery of hidden caches and new equipment. The computer banter is fun too. It is also fun to get better and better at the fighting and [very slowly!] upgrade your ship from run to run. Don't count on this part getting you a better ship anytime soon, but it will happen. I would have hated this game 10 years ago because I had all kinds of time to waste in long drawn out adventures. Now I don't. I jump in, blow stuff up, learn a little more, then I die. Each time I get slowly better. When the odds get stacked against me and I get stuck, I say "Ok, you want to play? Let's play". Then I see how many bad guys I can take out, before they kill me, upgrade for the next run and go back to my life until I have another 15 minutes to play. A perfect game for me.

To rogue like for me

Okay i did get the game for free after buying $20 in games. But this game is to dam hard even on easy. The tutorial doesn't even help that much at the begining and doesn't explain factions that well till after i shot at a crate and get blasted and killed within 30 seconds and this was on the first run. Plus being chased by more powerful baddies at the very start that has more powerful ships. It also doesn't explain the whole leveling up and what happens when you die. Including losing everything that you get in each run. And putting the game on easy just slows the prgression and doesn't change the enemies at all. Sorry but this game isn't for me. The game however is amazingly beautiful and runs great. Not sure about the story as i quit after my 3rd run
