Description
Waking up in a strange place with no memory of who you are, you must undertake the difficult and arduous journey of finding out who you really are. The only clue you have is a hastily written note telling you to meet a stranger in the nearest town. Thus begins your first step into the wondrous and dangerous world of Eschalon: Book I.

Eschalon: Book I is a role-playing game game designed from the ground up to offer an experience not unlike the classics of the RPG genre. You'll venture through massive outdoor environments and delve deep into sprawling dungeons as you seek to uncover the mystery of who, or what, you really are.

This title was developed with the classic role-playing fans in mind. It sports an old-school feel, isometric graphics, large open-ended world, and classic cRPG gameplay mechanics, just to fit perfectly with your idea of how a computer role-playing game should be like.
  • Eschalon: Book I is a turn-based, single-player RPG that's carefully designed to feel like the great old school RPGs of the past such as Ultima or Might & Magic.
  • Choose from 24 unique skills to make the character you want and 8 base attributes that affect your character’s every action throughout the game.
  • A combination of randomly generated treasure and carefully hidden goodies means that no two games will play the exact same way.

Dumb

The character creation screen alone pissed me off. Like if you give the choice to customize a character do it the proper way. Give me the option to play as either male OR female. The "story of book one revolves around a male character is just pure nonsense. Just give a set character then. Can't be that hard to keep it neutral. I'm male, I'm not a feminist but this kind of stuff just doesn't make sense. In a ROLEPLAYING GAME I wanna ROLEPLAY aka play a role different from real life. One that I DON'T identify with. This may appear as some minor detail to some but to me that's a two stars off, especially since the story is really thin and being male adds NOTHING to it. The story is barely there. If you go for the edgy "Create your own character" path, do it properly or not at all. If I had paid money for that I would want it back. I read about if the later installments improve on the matter, otherwise I wont play them

1/10 the price

For a simple indie game, that seems like it was made on a javascript applet, it seems overpriced. It runs slowly on by 1.06GH Duo Core Machine, and it's a simple hack/crawl CRPG. It seems like it should be ak $1 game. Too GOG, maybe put the Linux version, and mutiple languages on it.

FAECES!

Actually, it wouldn't be if not for the HURRRRRRDURRRRRRRR difficulty. Why do you developers INSIST on ruining games with this horseshit? One of the BS 5-star reviews claims "it is perfectly balanced". BULLSHIT! Your character is weaker than a damp leaf of lettuce even when levelled up to 7 (which is a far as I got before giving up). Even common "thugs" beat the living shit out of you. There is just no fun, and no progress. It is all frustration and tedium. Your time will mostly consist of aimlessly wandering around the uninspiring scenery. And it's sexist, you HAVE to be a "male" character despite the chargen page having a "Gender : Male" box, which you can't change..... like in shits such as "Two Worlds" and "Gothic". Must be an Eastern Europe cultural thing. Bohemian Interactive were terrible with that kind of mysogeny in all the Armed Assault games. Will NOT be even looking at Eschalon Book II and III.
