Endless Space 2 is a beautiful and capable 4X game, with memorable personality that's seemingly calculated down to the pixel level. It doesn't deviate much from the genre's norms, but it delivers a generally satisfying 4X experience with only a few missteps in combat and diplomacy. Provided you're also okay with tackling a steep learning curve, it's also a satisfying entry point for the genre.

Endless Space 2 doesn't sugarcoat the 4x experience, and it can be daunting when you realize that all 600 icons on the screen have a tooltip you need to read to make just this one decision. Despite all that complexity, none of it seems unnecessary, which means every one of those tooltips has essential information.

Great game but missing content

Game itself is wonderful, and well worth the full price. But the GOG version is missing some important content in the Community Add-on updates which is currently only available on Steam, and this makes the viable build variety in late game suck. Currently, there is also a great beta patch that is only available through Steam. Hope the devs will eventually make all of this available. This game is wonderful and I'd love to have the real definitive version of the game on GoG.

DLC cash grabbing

Another example of extensive DLC cash grabbing: you'll get a "base" game for NOT cheap and then a ton load of DLCs priced painfully high to patchwork the game to a complete experience eventually. Base game 40€, with all DLC's it amounts to just shy of 100€ (~95€) - today, if they don't release even more DLCs. Get it on discounted sales if you must. The game itself is a decent 4x space strategy game with up to date visuals.

One of the best 4x games out there

So far, Endless Space 2 (and Endless Space 1 as well) is the only 4x game that kept me playing for hundreds of hours as the good old Master of Orion 2.

SUCH A FUN GAME THIS YEAR

Re-Awakening Update s a bombshell. The best surprise anniversary update I've heard for any game. Fixing a game that I believed was very broken (battles) and unbalanced. This update doesn't just fix the dlc that it's named after, but also every other aspect of the game (including all dlc's). I'm forever a fanboy now of AMPLITUDE studios. Very well polished game.

Game is very high quality. Everything from the graphics to the controls to the sound and everything in between. Tech tree is awesome. Only complaint would be it's too easy. But well worth the DLC, get the Definitive version on sale for $30. Totally worth, Amplitude studios has been making updates consistently. Last patch was March 2024 :)
