Enderal: Forgotten Stories is a total conversion for TES V: Skyrim: a game modification that is set in its own world with its own landscape, lore and story. It offers an immersive open world, all for the player to explore, overhauled skill systems and gameplay mechanics and a dark, psychological storyline with believable characters.
Enderal is free and can be played by anyone owning a legal copy of TES V: Skyrim. (No DLCs are necessary.) It is developed non-commercially by SureAI, the team behind the renowned Oblivion mod "Nehrim: At Fate´s Edge" (and various other projects).

Twelve new sidequests and two non-linear guild questlines: Work your way up the Golden Sickle, Enderal's merchants guild and infiltrate the ranks of the Rhalâta, the enigmatic cult ruling the Undercity.

I'm really not clear how this can be free. The voice acting is fantastic. The characters and story are extremely well-written. Gameplay is obviously great. There is a lot to love. Put this up there with the best of them. Still waiting for TES6 but this will help tide me over.
As many have said before me, this is almost a masterpiece, probably better than Skyrim itself. And this is astonishing if you consider that it's a free game
The plot, the characters, the setting, everything is excellent. The world in particular is better than Skyrim because it has many kind of different environments, not only snow and ice. And the dungeons are much more realistic.
The graphics are still ok and the soundtrack is really epic.
I am not a native english speaker, so it's not simple for me to judge the dialogues, but they seem very good, even if you compare them to many AAA-products
But the perfect game doesn't exist, and also Enderal has some problems. The worst are in my opinion the progression system and the final.
For the progression system the devs have made a really strange choice: you don't have the traditional ability point system (such as Fallout3, Risen, Kotor etc.) and you dont' have the TES system of learning-by-doing. Instead of those, they gave you a strange system based on specific ability books, and if you want to improve your character you must buy and use them. But they are not always available in the markets (especially the magic ones) and they usually cost an outrageus amount of money. So the progression of the character results slow and unnatural, and this is really annoying, especially at the high levels. I have finished the game with a character who didn't have any ability beyond 75,and this doesn't make much sense, honestly
And for the final...sadly, it's a final who doesn't finish anything. I don't want to make spoiler, but both the finals are pretty useless, and this gives you the impression to be a simple witness, not the true leader of the story.
Nonetheless, my advice is to play this game without esitation: it's really great if you love RPG. It gave me over 100 hours of fun and i will surely replay it in the future with a different build. And in addition, it's free
So You dont have time to install 100 mods and try to not break game? This is Skyrim Dream Edition. Epic, good, fun, story, gameplay, everything. Also it is more accessable for today players because instructions and tips.
This is game for people who jump into Skyrim after 2023.
Never could get into Skyrim after several attempts. Bad story, boring companions and shallow mechanics. Most of all not what I wanted out of the game.
But Enderal fixes all of this. The games are similar in a lot of ways. Both are more Action/RPGs then just RPGs. But Skyrim is more of a sandbox with more content. But the quests are boring or fetch-quests and most of the other things are just cosmetics. No progression or acknowlegtments of your efforts.
Mods add a whole lot to it, especially the ones with more quests and interesting NPCs. But the core game is still the same.
Enderal is good straight out of the box. Granted it's a mod so it is kind of unfair to compare but it's not a huge company with tons of resources. And it's free (if you already own Skyrim.)
Most quests are intelligent, interesting and varied. And this some people will disagree on, but the locations are much better and more fun to explore. It has a rougher feeling to it like many older games had. All things aren't polished in the same way. I don't mean it's not stable or refined but it hasn't gone through ten executives before it got the green light. More mature in most ways and it isn't afraid to kill off people or end quests with a darker result.
Don't go into the game (or mod) expecting more of Skyrim. It's not as much of a sandbox, it's more character-driven and narrative. More focus on writing and the story.
It made me not regret spending money on Skyrim, which was a huge letdown.
One of the best mods ever made.
Enderal is about the best one can make with the Skyrim engine. Interesting story, well crafted characters and a complex world with lots of things to do. Be prepared to sink more time into this than in most commercial CRPGs!
