2 steps forward 1 step back
This game wasn't made by the OG founders of the franchise, this game was developed by BreakAway Games and they did a spectacular job in refining the mechanics of the franchise and refining the previous title. The Chinese aesthetic is a welcome change from the Eurocentric settings constantly shoved down our throats; with Ai pathfinding improved, an improved trade system and a realistic farming mechanic that reflects pre industrial societies (genius). Many of the positive reviews are valid but I want to point out how this game is sadly a step back compared to other Impression games & even compared to other builders/trading games. Many stated the game is easier not due to the high polish and no bugs but due to the unmentioned Cons: Emperor RotMK only has 13 levels of housing compared to 20 in Pharaoh, Emperor RotMK has more decoration but lower requirement's for neighbourhoods, Emperor RotMK has 3 temples & 12 unhappy gods that offer useless blessings and they constantly damage your city which is a shame as Zeus perfected religion, Emperor RotMK has less Goods & Services but lower requirements for housing evolution, Don't get me wrong this game is wonderful but its more for people new to the genre not for veterans This game isn't good with modern systems requires slight tweaking *Step 1 - download this and extract your desired screen resolution to the original GoG game folder and yes overwrite the files. *Step 2 - right click on the shortcut of Emperor RoTMK> properties> compatibility > 'Run this program in compatibility mode' choose windows 95 *Step 3 - in the compatibility tab look down to 'Change high DPI settings' click it then tick the 2 white boxes then click 'ok' then 'apply'. *Step 4 - Have Fun My Boujee Neighbourhood https://imgur.com/gallery/rugSWCk

A pleasant suprise!
Generally I'm not into city builders or management games, but I've fallen in love with this gem. The graphics still hold up pretty good, especially given to it's age. The setting in ancient China is simply brilliant. It has a suprisingly deep building system. And for this price? It's a dream come true. I defititely recommend to give it a try, even of you don't like the genre!

Best city management game
I must have played hundreds of hours of this game a decade ago. Now I'm buying it again. It's simply the BEST! I wish they could make a sequel, or a remaster of it.

The Year of the City Builder Dragon
Its simple. Do you still love Caesar III ? And do you like traditional Chinese vibes ? Just play it. This game is the satisfactory conclusion of the Sierra's city builder era. A gem.
