DUSK reintroduces you to a world where butchery and bloodshed must be mastered... if you're to survive 'til dawn. Inspired by Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Half-Life, Redneck Rampage and all your '90s favorites, while featuring a soundtrack by metal music mastermind Andrew Hulshult.
In three distinct campaign episodes hand-crafted from straight outta the '90s, players will battle through an onslaught of mystical backwater cultists, possessed militants and even darker forces and attempt to discover just what lurks beneath the Earth. Featuring a vast arsenal of badass weaponry including sickles, swords, crossbows, rifles, dual-wielded and double barreled shotguns and incredibly necessary grenade and rocket launchers, DUSK brings unapologetic retro action from start to finish.
In addition to the main campaign, DUSK features an Endless Survival Mode, putting you front and center against wave after wave of merciless enemies.
And for those looking for an extra challenge, DUSK also offers the chance to go head to head online to battle your friends in DUSKWorld arena multiplayer, where darkness hosts the worst of humanity in surprising new ways...
DUSK features cross-play multiplayer and the exclusive THE GOGATIORUM map for endless mode.
This game is one I've had my eye on since I saw the first footage of it on Youtube. Something about its Blood meets Quake style just had me hooked from moment one. This is the work of three mad lads, David Symanski, the designer, producer Dave Oshry, and Andrew Hulshult's composition comprises of the dev team for this bad boy plus testers and all that.
A total love letter to 90s FPS, this game requires the instincts of a treasure hunter, the agility of a gymnast, and a gunslinger's aim to survive. You will be tested, beaten into the dirt over and over again and barely scraping by gunfight after gunfight trying to avoid deadly traps and horrible monstrosities created by a demented cult to unholy gods. It's a hard game even on the lower difficulty settings, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
(Also it happens to have one of the best midbosses ever created; BIG JOHN. C'mahn, keel heem. Deweet nao.)
At first I had feared that Dusk would consist purely of memes and post-ironic 'didn't games used to be wacky?' jokes.
After just finishing the game i can tell you: It Isn't.
Does it play on nostalgia? Yes, Dusk makes its inspirations very clear,
(quake, heretic, redneck rampage, halflife, blood and probably more)
Does it have stupid jokes and references? Yes.
However, the more you progress, the more serious the game starts to take itself.
Sure, there will be some bossfights that walked straight out of a 3 year olds drawing,
but when the game truly startes taking itself seriously it elevates the material to another level.
Dismissive chuckles are followed by levels with amazing atmosphere and suspense. The
From powerfantasy playground with rednecks to truly moody and oppressive environments.
The music will coincide with reveals of great horror and mystery, 'Story' is expertly told through environment without wasting ANY of your time. These things happen seamlessly intertwined with gameplay so the pacing doesn't miss a beat. Before you know you forget all about the silly premise and looks.
Hell, while looks are charmingly awful, that occasionally takes a turn for the better too with later levels featuring bizarre abstract architecture and moody lighting. I'd actually call a bunch 'good looking'.
Leveldesign is great.
Super fast movment.
Weapons sound good.
Fun enemies.
Loads of secrets
Can crank the fov up to extreme levels in menu. (thank you devs,)
There were some nitpicks though.
Playing with a high fov (I used 130) will make your view clip outside the level in small places.
Playing with physics is a bit wonky, and you'll want to stack them often if you're a secrets fiend.
With a higher fov grabbing items was harder than it should've been too.
UI text blends into background often.
Crosshairs have no contrast black lines around them. Luckily they were customizable, but sometimes i'd have to change colour within a level several times as i couldn't see it.
Enjoyed this game via of Ubuntu Mate 18.04
Solid SP experience. Many of the maps were wonders to play through. As a long time FPS fan from the 90's til now I found myself surprised often in the SP campaign.
I play the MP via of LAN with friends and family and that was a ton of fun.
Kudos to the devs they did a great job.
simply amazing

Cons
It ends :(
Mutliplayer kinda dead, you need to use Discord to find matches
No BFG-esque weapon
Difficulty Spike near the end where it just turns into Endless mode for about 10 minutes
Buy this at any price, simply a masterpiece
