You get some kind of old-fashioned game you have seen many times before in a similar manner. In my humble opinion, the quests' stories are below average, but the combat is really good.
Every time I fully exit the game, the next time I launch it starts up like I've never played before, creating "new save data" and making me start at the prologue and forcing me create a new character. This is BullS***! I've searched forums, contact support (still haven't gotten a reply after several days), and can see that other people are having the same problem, but have yet to find any solution. I do NOT recommend this game to anyone.
I bought this in the advice of others who played it and swore up and down it was better than Skyrim. While the game plays smoothly as far as performance, it's got a lot of bugs in the controls and in some of the quests as well. Plus it's basically a giant copypasta world of the same stuff everywhere with no terrain variety, no weather systems, no environmental changes. Just a day/night cycle who's only purpose is to let out the tougher monsters at night. None of the side quests were interesting at all. The main quest chain was far too short, and the game controls are unfortunately broken so badly that the boss fight with the dragon can't be completed because it feels like your'e trying to run away through a swimming pool. Then there's the integrated DLC that seems to serve no purpose at all and didn't even have a story line attached to it. The pawn system seemed like it could have been pretty cool but unfortunately trying to use the online features for them causes the game to crash regularly. With the forced single-save system it sucks to have that happen cause you'll just lose your progress. IMO, save your money for something better. Or get this when it's on an 80% off sale if you're really bored.
I bought this on a whim, and I'm glad I did. My favorite action RPGs are the Gothic games and Risen, and this is not as deep or difficult, but I am finding it to be really, really, just plain fun. I do recommend using a game controller, especially if you use a laptop for gaming, because I found some of the key combinations difficult on the laptop keyboard. And even if you are not proficient with a controller (I'm not), you can learn some favorite moves and still progress. The graphics are really nice, the monsters are diverse and interesting, and you really can play every character class (independently) in one game if you want to try them all out - without losing progress. I do wish the save feature was better - if you lose a battle (die) twice in a row, you pretty much have to go back to the last time you slept in an inn and replay from there (there may be a way around this to load a manual save, but they don't make it easy). Anyway, I highly recommend this game - it's a blast.
