While this game is a bit clunky it has THE most exciting monster fights in any action RPG ever and has so much variety to the gameplay and the world itself. Off the beaten path is where you'll find some of the best adventures in this game and if you love a challenge then prepare to be ground to a fine paste many times over if you are ill prepared. I cannot heap enough praise on this one title alone so go play it now to see the full glory of it yourself.
One of the best, if not THE best, third person action RPGs I have ever played. It rewards you for learning and punishes you for refusing to adapt to its ever changing monsters. The combat is visceral, and gives a weighty feel to every movement, from a simple swing to the launching of a brigand fifteen feet in the air. The Ferrystones and Port Crystals are an interesting and helpful system. Using them allows you to fast travel to anywhere in the world you want, as long as you've been there and placed one of those Port Crystals down. Overall well polished and extremely fun, if you're brave enough to face the dangers that lurk in the darkness.
Let's start... you have A huge world to travel and explore. I mean huge, with undergrounds caves and secret passages. While exploring you will face many monsters, like golins, trolls, cyclops, griphons, hydras, chimeras, harpies, dragons, drakes, wyverns, bandits, bats and even more. You have thousands of itens to gather, armors, weapons, equipments, potions, utilities and stuff. You have vaste classes, like Warrior, Mage, Sorcerer, Assassin, Ranger, Magic Archer, Fighter and Strider. Each one has skills and spells, for each player to decide which one suits better. You have a main story to follow, beeing able to only do main quests or go to side and side-side quests. Along that you have board quests, that ask you to travel to some places beeing bodyguard to someone or kill X monsters or acquire some rare itens. Those quests give you huge amount of money or some rare itens. In the Dark Arisen DLC, you can travel to BitterBlack Island, a place not welcome to new players. Every monster there can welcome you to death.... you actually meat Death (Grim Reaper) in that island... and, my advice, RUN.
Dragon's Dogma is a great open world action RPG with many features and few flaws.
The game's general description is following:
You start out by selecting a base class with different stat gains per level and at level 10 in the "hub" you may choose a more advanced class depending on how you wish to develop your character. Personally I love going all stabby stabby with rogue classes and climbing up on large enemies stabbing them in their weak-points but there's no denying that the grand spells that mages can cast are awesome too whilst warriors with their heavy hitting attacks are fun in their own way.
Dragon's Dogma for me is Dark Souls combined with Elder Scrolls and a touch from Shadow of The Colossus.
Pros & Cons
+Great diversity in skills and abilities
+The game does not fear having abilities with huge effects
+Epic battles against large scaled enemies (Though not in the same scale as Shadow of The Colossus)
+Decent diversity in enemies, enough that I won't get bored with them.
+Customizable followers (Everything from appearance to loadout in the same way one select one owns loadout)
+NG+
+Challenges built into the game (Like speedruns & hardmode)
+Bitterblack Isle (Challenge island that offers great challenges and loot)
-Followers are every now and then completely brain-dead but one can affect how their AI develops and one can reset it.
-Would be nice with more diversity of enemies
-Dragon's Dogma 2 is not out yet (not a true con, just wish I could play it)
Its kinda weird mix of eastern and western rpgs...
+ combat. Fun hack and slash mixed with shadow of the colossus style monster climbing
+ really challenging but fair
+ visually ok nothing special
- story is just trash imo. Ending is actually the middle and it makes no sense at all
- world is ok but not fun to explore at all. And basically there is no fast travel so it becomes a chore
- will get really repetitive
Overall 6/10 combat is really great, one of the best there is. Unfortunately everything else is mediocre or subpar
