Dorfromantik is a relaxing building strategy and puzzle game in which you place tiles to create ever-growing, idyllic village landscapes. With Dorfromantik, you can immerse yourself in a quiet, peaceful world at any time and take a break from everyday life. At the same time, Dorfromantik offers a challenge for those who are looking for one: To beat the highscore, you need to carefully plan and strategically place your tiles.
In Dorfromantik you start with a stack of procedurally generated tiles. One after the other, you draw the top tile of the stack, place it on one available slot and rotate for the best fit. Thereby groups and combinations of landscapes are formed, such as forests, villages or water bodies, and you are rewarded with points depending on how well the tile fits.
On some tiles you will also encounter special objects that give you a quest: For example, the windmill wants to border 6 grain fields, the locomotive wants to be connected to 10 tracks or the deer wants to inhabit a forest with at least 50 trees. Fulfill these quests to get more tiles to continue the expansion of your landscape. The game ends when the tile stack is used up.
As you expand the landscape, you can advance into new, colorful biomes and discover pre-placed game objects that give you long-term tasks. Through these tasks you can unlock new tiles, new biomes and new quests.

I received an email from GOG with a discount advertisement for this game. I clicked on it, watched a 3 minutes video tutorial, I bought the game. It is exactly as advertised. Play it as a puzzle game or just as a landscape builder. Your choice.
I've never bought a game so fast in recent times. They usually go to a wishlist and languish there for months or years. Totally happy with my impulsive purchase :)
Dead set, if this came had come out in 2020 I doubt we'd have noticed COVID. I've spent the last few days in a comfy year chilling with Dorfromantik, alternating between building for pleasure and chasing scores and challenges. I can't wait for the creative mode and for anything else this talented team of student developers choose to add in!
Mechanically it feels a bit like a hex-based, single player Carcasonne, where you're aiming to connect the edges of each tile to match their neighbours while also trying to grow your districts to make the longest river or largest village. Thanks to a gentle tilt-shift and friendly art style, it's extremely relaxing to play and build, with enough complexity and meta-goals to chase that there's probably something here for everyone.
To top it all off it's well implemented on GOG with full achievement support. It's still in development too so it's only going to get better with time!
Dorfromantik is a building, strategy and therapy game, where you have to organize tile after tile, take your time and enjoy the peaceful soundtrack.
You will lost the track of time playing this game and after you finish your gaming session you'll be feeling better.
This is more a personal experience, I been suffering anxiety disorder for years, it's really hard for me to switch off my brain and just stop for a moment, but now it's part of my routine to take some time before go to bed, start this game, put my headphones and just let my mind flow in those beautiful landscapes I build, it's part pf a peaceful night, and I want to thanks the devs for that.
Dorfromantik is an interesting game. Like everyone says, it's got relaxing music. In fact, the music could potentially put you to sleep if you're already tired while playing. The graphics are charming without being cutesy. And the gameplay is really fun if you enjoy board games where you put down hex-based landscape tiles.
Early on, you unlock lots of achievements, new tiles, etc. It's a fun way to encourage the player. As the achievements slowed down, I began to look further into the gameplay. It turn out that there's a lot of hidden complexity.
If you want to delay that "game over" screen and fill up the map with those charming tiles, you have to spend a lot of time analyzing where to best put them. If you're a perfectionist, this might actually become a bit stressful. Trying to find the perfect spot is not easy!
What often happens in my games so far is that I got a bit tired of hunting the perfect spot, find a "good enough" spot, and soon after run out of tiles. If I want to keep those achievements flowing, it look like I'll have to put on the old thinking cap.
Wonderfully well designed game, chill atmosphere, art and music. When you have played a few rounds you begin to plan ahead and think about later game stages, so, its richer in depth than just placing matching tiles.
