DOOM 3

Hi, just bought Doom III with the BFG edition, and it refuses to start/load? I get no error message or anything? Im using the latest windows 11 version (verion 24H2 OS build 26100.3476) It works with RBDoom, but when I try to add mods (high resolution textures), it stops working again. Though in that case i get the blue console thing at startup, but it errors and stops loaing (game doesnt start). So, i can play vanilla Doom3 with the RBDoom loader, but mods dont works (which is 80% of the fun with ID games... and i am also interested in modding more). Help/solutions are welcome... Google didnt result in any solution that works for me. Most results just suggest changing the fullscreen mode in the cfg file and such, but that doesnt seem to change anything for me...

I have played through both the original release and the BFG edition of this game. While not a proper sequel of the first Doom games, it (and its expansion pack which is included here) is a great FPS game with horror elements. You will find yourself under surprise attacks, you will hear sounds from hell and not know what is going on, and you will find yourself having your flashlight (which lasts longer in the BFG edition and it works with any weapon) run out of charge on the worst possible moment. But boy you won't care! As long as you are not looking for an experience exactly like the original two games (or the latest reboot of Doom), you will find a solid, fun, scary at times, funny FPS game which is more than worth paying the price. I have it on PC (discs versions and digital) and PS3 and going to get it from GOG too soon. One of the top 10 FPS games of the decade, getting a very nice "remastered" touch with the BFG edition. Better graphics, various smaller changes, some gameplay changes like the aforementioned flashlight which now you can use it with all your weapons, etc. IF there was one thing I wish it would be different is to have an option to have the flashlight work as in the original release. But, that is hardly an issue worth worrying about. OK, the sound effects of your guns are a bit meh too, but after a while you don't care that much. IMO a Must Buy game. Unskippable cutscenes, weird/broken lighting (not present in the vanilla D3+RoE), broken multiplayer, impossible achievements. That'll do remaster/10

The BFG Edition is horrible compared to the original Doom 3 release. Shame on you GOG for not pursuing the original Doom 3 release.

Doom3 BFG.. Ah the memories.. The game itself has been through a few changes since it's original release, most good, a few not so good, a few more great! An epic and outstanding adventure for any fan of the Doom series. Like the previous games in the series, there is a difficulty level for a player of any expertise, including complete beginners. And if that describes you, this is a great game to jump into First Person Shooter! For full retail price it was more than worth the price of admission. Now it's on GOG, no lame DRM and at this price it's a no brainer. If you played it before and liked it, what are you waiting for? If you've never played it, take the plunge! You'll have a blast[pun intended]!
