My only complaint is there are no manuals to the game. I never played Doom 3 but the visuals and sounds seem stunning enough for the time. For completions sake get the manuals up here as it seems I have to look all over the net for them. Grrrr... rip n tear my hair out... oh wait.. I'm bald. Nose hairs then....

So disappointed
I read so much about this game, and when I got it I was so disappointed. So many of the mobs just appear behind you, or teleport in, what a major cop out in map design. I feel like DoomGuy has a broken leg in this game he moves so slow. Playing GZDoom, I had high hopes for Dhewm, but I'm going back to Doom2...

Am I Crazy?
This is hot garbage compared to the original game... they fundamentally changed it. It's so much brighter now (no it's not my monitor, I compared it to my og copy and it's just all around brighter). I don't even need to use the flashlight... which is no longer a melee weapon which has to be held. Now you can have a gun, and your flashlight out at the same time... this is a fundamental change to the game play mechanics that I think is for the worse. It makes it like every other Halo clone out there. What made the original best imo was the dark atmosphere and the fact that you had to choose between seeing what's in front of you, and shooting it. "Playing it safe" and shooting blindly was healthy, but costly, where as having your light out can help nail down where they are, at the cost of time, which this version basically removes Also every time the auto-save kicks off it halts everything for a good 1-2 seconds, which did not happen in the original. The shadows look weird on the characters ears too.. again.. this does not happen in the OG version Save your money folks, go use DHEWM3 with your original versions for all the resolution fixes you could ask for

Greed, greed never ends...
Obvious cash grab aside, i'll be honest and say BFG isn't that bad when modded with the Hi Def mod and other addons. It'll make your game quite spiffy with decent eye candy. It's a decent experience overall, just brighter, with less ambiance than the original. BFG isn't comparable to the original in any way, even if the graphics have been updated enough to pretend they were. Doom BFG is really nothing more than sloppy seconds. My advice is to hunt to original game somehow and play that. A much better experience and it has many, many more mods all ready for you to try out.

Bad release, Good release
Doom 3 BFG is really a set back compared to original. Why I am rating this 5 stars then? Search for "Doom 3 BFG HI-DEF" mod. Basically, it restores the lighting, textures and shadows back to amazing level. It even runs on Linux and Mac. The guy who created it, is just god like.
