I had to stop playing this game
Because it is to addictive and I haven't even started playing the add ons. At first it was frustrating, but each time I played, I survived longer. The problem is, there is always something to explore or to prepare, so I couldn't stop playing and the seasons in game kept coming and going like the sun outside in the real world. It seems impossible for me to play this game only for an hour. If you are looking for a game that you can play for countless hours, like turn based strategy or role playing games, this might be the right one.

A quintessential survival game
Don’t Starve is exactly what it purports to be: a survival game. The game mechanics, exhibiting this clear identity, focus primarily around exploration, gathering useful items and materials around the world, and crafting new and increasingly sophisticated devices to assist in your survival. The game is reasonably fleshed out and detailed in this respect, and provides for a satisfying sense of progression through subsequent attempts. On the other hand, the combat mechanics are rudimentary at best, consisting mostly of clicking to attack and kiting to avoid losing that precious health. I don’t consider this a major setback, though, because Don’t Starve, through its superb mechanics, is in its element where it matters most: conquering the harsh wilderness into which you are plunged. I didn’t know what to expect with regard to the game’s scope, however I was astonished at the amount of content available. There are nine playable characters, each with their quirky pros and cons, a rich variety of amusingly strange flora and fauna, and various tools and resources at your disposal. This is the result of a continually updated game, and bears the hallmarks of a passionate and invested development team, a fact that is worthy of praise. This also especially makes exploring the randomized world all the more joyous with each new attempt at survival. If you want an actual survival game rather than an action-adventure masquerading as such, then perhaps you should give Don’t Starve a try. It knows what it wants to be and it does what it wants to do exceptionally well. However, because of the included mechanic of perma-death, patience, and perhaps a streak of perfectionism is needed to truly enjoy this fine little gem.
