A flawed, but wonderful game
I'll cut straight to the most important point - make sure that you skip the RTS mechanics, as they are a complete waste of time and quite cumbersome. This game has some wonderfully hidden pieces that get ignored because people get caught up too much in certain aspects. You are not going to get incredible depth in all of the things you do in this game, but what you do get is quite charming. While the political aspects of the game can get a bit cheesy in theme sometimes, for example, they are still well-written, well-voice acted, and provide a surprising level of entertainment. While most games nowadays lack any sort of care put into the story, there is a level of polish to be seen here that one has to take the time to notice. As mentioned before, the turn-based strategy portion is not all that deep, but is still enjoyable. I especially like how it mixes with the RPG/story portion of the game to create a unique experience that is not usually found elsewhere. Also note that there is still some level of strategy required, despite the limited depth - everything is not going to just be handed to you. I would say that what it comes down to is what you are looking for. If you are looking for: - A competitive experience. - Tons of mechanics and stats to dig through and get lost in. - A next-gen strategy game with tons of new features. - Mind-blowing dragon flying and fighting mechanics. Then you won't enjoy this. If you are looking for: - A world to get lost in. - An interesting experience. - Some strategy aspects linked to a story. - An excellent use of words in the dialogue (this game actually had a decent writer it seems, though don't go in expecting BGII or Planescape or anything - it's not at that incredible kind of level). Then you very well may.
