a PS2 7/10 kinda game.

Din's Curse has a really interesting charm. It knows what it is, a 10 dollar Diablo 1 clone. Yet it does that VERY well. No, there are no massive skill trees like in more modern arpgs, and yes EVERYTHING is random to a fault. BUT, you get right into the action, no long cut scenes, no gimmicks, no 2 hour tutorial. You go RIGHT into the game, so if you don't like a character drop em, don't like a town, drop em, don't like the dungeon, drop em. It's designed to be quick fun, ACTION game. TL;DR: Dins a Diablo clone. It doesn't change the formula, but adds randomization. Also fun with friends.

Rough Gem

Din's Curse feels like a game made in 1999 - a real string to it's bow. Soldak's ARPG offering possesses a charm or more explicitly a quaintness that is sorely lacking from many modern PC games and I'm including a good number of Indies in that comment. The presentation is adequate, graphically the game certainly won't win any awards and the palette is a litte garish in places but this speaks more to the "hand-made" nature of the title rather than the soulless, corporatised slop the AAA industry all too frequently serves up. It'll definitely be an acquired taste but I find the UI to be fairly clean and intuitive, the sound design is occasionally pleasant on the ears (the Dev used the perfect "Quest Completed" sound) but what really impresses (and at times bewilders) are the unique mechanics. This isn't an ARPG in the style of Grim Dawn/POE/Diablo/Last Epoch etc, there are several ancillary mechanics (which give a sense of scope few videogames have conveyed) which all of the aforementioned titles lack that really make DC stand out. Full review when I've spent more time with the game but thus far, yeah it's pretty damn good.

Looks crude, feels good

Din´s Curse is an action-heavy hack&slay game that takes most of its inspiration from Diablo 1 and 2. Combat: Din´s Curse is developed by a tiny indie studio. Make no mistake, the game looks very ugly. Blocky characters, textures that don´t mix well and a poor variety of sound effects. It takes a while to get into. Under this rough surface, the combat is surprisingly fun. It controls much like any other action rpg, left-click to move, right-click to attack. And a few hotkeys for additional abilities. Unlike other action rpgs, your character is not locked in place when he performs an action. It gives you way more mobility than you would expect. You are even able to pull off tricky shots while sidestepping. Character growth: Each starting class comes with three skill trees. For added variety, you can create a hybrid class out of 2 skill trees of different classes, this adds lots of replayability to the already strong line-up. The skill trees take heavy inspiration from the World of Warcraft skill trees. For example, the warrior class comes with an weapon (arms), a gladiator (fury) and a defender (protection) skill tree. This is not neccessarily a bad thing, the skill trees from WoW offered strong themes and varied gameplay, which is still the case here. Exploration: A town and a dungeon. This is your playground to explore and solve quests in order to save the town. It is all randomly generated but the variety of towns, dungeons and quests is limited. But there is a pretty good chance that you won´t notice it. Something will hold your attention: there is a chat box that informs you about events in the town or dungeon. Usually bad news. Raids on the town, plague outbreaks, new bosses arriving. There is much to keep an eye out for, you usually have more pressing matters to care for than complaining about variety. It is a captivating and exciting feature. Full review + screenshots at: http://hellgates2.blogspot.com/2015/12/review-dins-curse-add-on-demon-war.html

unbalanced, unfair, buggy

I just stopped now playing because I lost a town while the game was PAUSED!!!! W T F! Before I played this initially promising game with three different characters, warrior, rogue and conjured until ~level 13. For the latter two classes the game it is totally unbalanced as you cannot equip most of the weapons and armours you find as you simply do not have the skills for it. Mana bases skilled are either weak or not affordable. The game is unfair as your enemies start so deep in the dungeon you can hardly reach them in time. When a town is attacked and you cannot return quick enough your trades persons will die leaving you without any chance to get new potions/food and sell the crap you've found but cannot equip. furthermore, a npc started to solve the quest on her on and I get a "failed" on it - there was no hint there was a time constraint on an messnenger quest so WTF again! I once had a town where half the people were petrified and I had the plague reducing most of my main stats by 20% WTF? Is it not enough to always have hordes of monsters running at you and the stress of heeading back to town and finishing the quests on its own?? The game is buggy as it constantly shows enemies (their name and live bar) in the dungeons where are non. Also most of torches/ lamps are dark again when you revisit the same level later.
