Now with Hellfire!

Originally developed by Synergistic Software and released in 1997, Hellfire was not an official Blizzard product and did not carry Blizzard’s endorsement or label. Despite that, in response to Diablo players who have expressed a desire to experience the content, Blizzard has given the OK for it to be included as a free add-on with Diablo purchases on GOG.COM.

Hellfire offers a non-canonical single-player storyline where players must defeat a powerful demon named Na-Krul who is threatening Tristram. The expansion also adds a Monk class, new weapons and items, new missions, locations, dungeons, and enemies. Hellfire will be accessible while launching the original Diablo.

Traveler, stay awhile and listen...

Darkness stirs beneath Tristram. An ancient evil sweeps across the land, plunging it into civil war and terrorizing the populace. A mad king, his missing son, and a mysterious archbishop are all pieces of the puzzle you need to hack through. You have journeyed to the source of this evil. The town of Tristram - now inhabited only by a handful of survivors, broken and twisted by the madness that has befallen them. A cathedral stands there, built over the ruins of an ancient monastery. Eerie lights and ungodly sounds are heard echoing through its abandoned halls, and that is where you shall venture.

Embark, if you dare, on a quest to destroy The Prime Evil…

  • Experience the legendary action/RPG that influenced an entire genre.
  • Storm Diablo's halls as either a Warrior, a Sorcerer or a Rogue - each with unique skills and abilities.
  • Unite to destroy Diablo - up to 4 players can band together via Internet, or play head-to-head via LAN.
  • Unprecedented replayability - over 200 different monsters inhabit Diablo's ever-changing labyrinth. Equip epic items to conquer fearsome bosses and their minions.
  • A spine-chilling story - experience the horror of a world held in the grasp of The Lord of Terror.

Ahhh, fresh meat!

Travelers looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.
For those wanting something a bit more modern, Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game tuned for today’s gaming PCs, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, a host of bug fixes and high-resolution support via aspect ratio-correct upscaling.

  • The most voted game on the GOG.com wishlist, finally trapped in a DRM-free soulstone!
  • Return to the beginning of this dark saga, now in digital format for the first time ever.
  • Better value than Wirt's wares, guaranteed.

Battle.net® multiplayer requires you to configure the Router and Firewall Ports, details can be found here.

Genre defining classic

i've been trying to find a place to purchase this game for a long time and finally i found it here ! thought i'd just test it out for like 15 mins to see if its as good as i remember and ended up playing for two hours, its worth it if you can accept its a really old game which means clunky animations, controls and simple graphics but the atmosphere is the most intense and creepy in the entire series (the butcher was one of the scariest video-game monsters ever when i was a kid) so yeah...a glowing recommendation.

Stay a while an listen!

Ignore everyone saying this costs too much. Porting and formatting an old game to play on modern systems isn't cheap. I'd be surprised if they were making any profit off of it with this low price. Everyone that played this game when it came out is probably in their 30s, Lets stop acting like we're broke teenagers. It's an amazing game and it's worth every penny.

Like wine, the older the better it is.

Diablo is the pioneer in the ARPG-Dungeon Crawler genre, it's a blast to play, but It is not for everyone, In a technical level the games is clunky and kinda slow paced. So it's probably that you wont't enjoy it as much as you should, mainly when there are modern titles that play better. But this is still a classic, so maybe, just in name of Gaming history may worth a try.

Nostalgia Value

Back in 1996 I purchased Diablo for $50 at Babbage's; as almost everyone agrees it was an amazing game at that time. Seeing it on GOG, I rushed to buy it again for $10. The game was worth every penny of that $50 in 1996 The key question is whether the game is worth $10 now. As others have noted, the game is simply the 1996 Diablo configured to run properly under modern operating systems-there are no real improvements or meaningful new features. As such, the game is as good as it ever was; but gaming has obviously progressed dramatically since 1996. Because of this, new players who know only modern games will probably find the graphics laughable and the game play rather clunky. That said, Diablo is still a solid game if one can look beyond the wall of time and enjoy the game for what it is. To use an analogy, games like chess, Axis & Allies, and Risk are still fun even though they are old (and chess is ancient). For old players who remember Diablo fondly, that $10 can be well spent--playing Diablo through the haze of nostalgia can take you back to those good old days. This is analogous to buying an old record you used to listen to, or watching old episodes of a TV you used to love (like the X-Files). Who cares how well it has really stood up to the ravages of time when it can make you feel the joys of the past? In closing, one way to look at buying Diablo now is to think about what you would do if someone offered you a mint condition high end gaming rig (loaded with Windows 95) from 1996 for 1/5 of the original price. Sure, you could actually buy a pretty good modern PC for that same price...but think of the memories that might awaken when you see Windows 95 boot up. Of course, if you have no memories of that, the PC would just be an expensive purchase of something that was awesome once upon a time and your money might be better spent elsewhere.
