Diablo + Hellfire

After years of us speedrunners fighting with the original game to get it running, GOG has made it simple! To be honest, GOG copy is pretty much what we speedrunners have been doing for years through a series of patchers (in fact GOG uses the same version of IPX wrapper we use lol!) It's really nice for us now that, we can just plug and play in no time flat! All the age old bugs and glitches are in there (WOOT SPEEDRUNNERS!) but sadly a few new ones are added. At least in terms of windowed mode, some people have experienced weird cursor issues and wonky behavior. Battlenet is limited to only "classic" version, which appears to not be compatible with original copies of the game. If I had to say a YEH or NEH, I would have to go YEH all the WEH! Diablo is a gem, and GOG has done what blizzard should of years ago! Its too bad to see Blizzard throw us Diablo 1 fans to the side in favor of D2 & D3, but hopefully GOG will give us a good home!

Sure this game is old and kind of clunky, but gosh dang it am I having a good time with this title.

Diablo is one of the most influential computer games of all time. Unlike most other RPGs from that period, this game is still quite accessible to modern players thanks to a superbly designed (for its time) user interface, although the gameplay itself is pretty slow-paced. The gothic horror atmosphere of the original Diablo is unlike any other game in the genre. In contrast to other modern action RPGs, this game is built around the experience of individual playthroughs instead of endless endgame grinding for better gear, so it might appear a bit shallow to some by current standards. The GOG release solves some of the technical problems the game has on modern systems through a number of band-aid fixes, and it's pretty much the best thing we can get until people at Blizzard finally decide to patch the game properly themselves.

Ok, Diablo 2 has better graphics, more character classes and a better story, but this is the original one. I still have this CD, and I can remember when I played it for the first time, somewhere around 1997/1998. I couldn´t stop to play. This is not a true RPG, but a dungeon crawler that will garantee you lots of fun for a long time. The fact that the dungeons (and enemies/trasures/missions) changes on every new game was something new by the time the game was released, and because of that you will have lots of things to discover and explore before you get bored. Of course, the price is unreal for a 20 years game, but if you have never played this game before, this is a must (just wait to get it cheaper).
