Deus Ex™ GOTY Edition

What can you say? When someone even mentions Deus Ex you get this crippling, overwhelming urge to play Deus Ex. In Deus Ex you play JC Denton and you can put all your points into Swimming because in Deus Ex you want to be an olympic-class swimmer. Deus Ex is called an immersive sim and if you want to be immersed in the world of olypmic swimming then Deus Ex has you covered. Deus Ex is still hecking fun to play, there's no doubt about it. Sure, the graphics certainly don't hold up and if you want to play as a lady nano-infused, trenchoat wearing, sunglasses at night badbutt then you gotta mod it, but that's fine, Deus Ex is worth it (and it's not even that hard to mod). Deus Ex is a game that every game after is based on. Even DOOM, the dad of DOOM-likes saw the future and copied Deus Ex. Every game is a Deus Ex-like in my book. So really, if you like modern games and have 1 dollar to spare, buy Deus Ex. Even playing Deus Ex for 10 minutes you will see what all the hubbub is about and the dollar to minutes played would have paid for itself ten times over. Deus Ex gets 4 stars because you can't raise Swimming to Grandmaster. Deus Ex.

For some, what I write will mean a lot. For some - probably nothing. In my opinion Deus Ex' storyline and gameplay is second to, and only to, System Shock 2. If you have tried neither, get Deus Ex, you probably won't regret it. If you loved SS2 and haven't played this game - it'll be as similar an experience as it can be.

Back in the days, DeusEx was a more than worthy (spiritual) successor of System Shock 2 (which really raises the bar to max). Today, DeusEx is a more than worthy prequel to the new "DeusEx: Human Evolution". After playing DeusEx: HR a few month ago (which is really a great game!), i got nostalgic and grabbed the original. The last time i played it was many many years ago and I was blown away how good it actually is. The story, the voice acting and the overall gameplay are just superb! If you grab this game, i can highly recommend to use some of the community mods (high resolution texture packs for example) that can improve graphics a lot! It took me 3 tries to get into this game. before i realized what this was about , unlike today games there were no achievements for playing non lethal but people did so anyway because they believed in the game world. A variety of options and level design some i still find new areas in my 4th or 5th play through due to the level design almost tricking you into thinking its linear due to the skill sets you have chosen. even the music still holds up today whilst nothing completely amazing it adds to the feel of the game without being intrusive. A good story with real choices of ambiguous endings the only downside is the graphics and some of the voice acting. In conclusion im glad i persisted and finally understood deus ex and why people hold it in such high regard and play it still this day.

I have played this game all up to hardcore; knew every corner, dialogue, mod etc. The option of getting to choose your destiny was new at that time. Stepping off the good or evil plans, you can be what you want to be. In addition to beeing free in my options of lifestyle, i can also choose if i prefer stealth, big bombs, the tech option or be the fast killer. From my experience not all 4 options are as hard, but exploring multiple ways of reaching your goal (even in the first level) is awesome. Your dialogue also refers to your choices.... This is most definitly money well spent!
