Destroy All Humans! is the remake, fans of the cult classic have been eagerly waiting for. This demo will give you a glimpse at what makes this dark humored alien invasion game one of the most beloved action adventures of all time:
• Slip on your jetpack, ready your Zap-O-Matic and start electrocuting those puny humans!
• Use Psychokinesis to grab humans, cows and more, then hurl everything at your enemies!
• Burn down the primitive human dwellings with the Death Ray of your flying Saucer!
• Play one of the brand-new Abducto-challenges: feed the giant abduction beam to help the Furon species study life on Earth
Expected Playtime is approximately 20 - 30 minutes
While I had a Playstation at the time of its original; release - I never picked this game up to my dissapointment. Needless to say I was so happy to hear there was a remake coming out! I played the demo and It was a great time. I love the arcade-like feel and the humorous approach. I think it is nice that they kept the original sound design and voice acting. It is hard to miss the voice of Invader Zim and it brought me back. Cant wait to jump into the full game.
THE GAME: "Destroy All Humans!" is an affectionate parody of classic black & white sci fi cinema. Unlike in most of those movies, though, the protagonist is the alien. Like in most games in which you play as a villain, the focus is on fun. Scare, fool, control, fight and destroy all humans in your path both on foot or your flying saucer, with an increasing variety of abilities and weapons at your disposal. Unlock all kinds of extra content (the original included even a full movie, "Teenagers from Outer Space", as an unlockable).
THE REMAKE: Unlike, say, the Resident Evil 2 remake that takes the elements of the original and reimagines them in a different way, this one is a full 1 on 1 remake with the same gameplay and even retaining the same voice acting from the original. Rather than simply remastering the game by upscaling the resolution they remade the graphics from the ground up, in order to keep the experience of the original more or less intact and letting more gamers be able to play this classic.
The game looks great. Fortunately they kept a similar art style rather than going for photorealism. Everything else has been kept more or less the same, but streamlined. The UI is more friendly, particularly in menus. A few bits of the gameplay have been refined to be less frustrating. Overall, this is the optimal "Destroy All Humans!" experience.
The game runs pretty well, even in my middle-ground PC. I can't speak for keyboard and mouse controls, but with a gamepad the game controls fantastically. It was designed for a gamepad in the first place, so I recommend one.
This is a 100% recommended purchase. The game is a classic without a doubt, and all the demo needed to show was that it ran well, and it does. It really is a no-brainer. I hope more remakes like this one come for other previous console exclusives.
I'm a huge fan of this series, played DAH 1-3 and beat all of them numerous times. And I have to admit that this is a really amazing remake so far! However I'm making this review in hopes that developers will read it and take a few things to heart. While the core gameplay is amazing and fluid, there's a few things that I'd like to address about how they could improve on it (hopefully they already have and this is just an older build of the game).
1. Unlocked camera when flying the saucer. This was something that I was hoping they'd add, but alas, it's not in the game. I always wanted to be able to see the saucer from all angles, and having the camera locked in place for the most part feels very stiff imo.
2. Better AI. Really, what I mean by this, is the people who are driving the cars don't really react to the chaos that's ensuing around them unless it's right in front of their eyes. And seeing cars driving around casually when I'm in my saucer destroying buildings or zapping people is just...odd.
3. More variation of weapons for both Crypto and his saucer. This is less of a complaint and more of something I'd love to see in the future. I think having only 4 main weapons for both the saucer and Crypto would get very...stale after a while. And yes, while the original game had this many, I'd still think that this remake has the potential to add more. Maybe later DLC could add more unique and interesting weapons for Crypto to play around with?
Those are my biggest complaints when playing. Though, if I'm honest I'm really excited for the release of this game!
