Description

Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive is the first strategy game ever to combine a movie-based and story-driven atmosphere of an adventure game with the intellectual challenge of a real time tactic game. 

In this western-style title, discover a game of strategy and tactics played out in exceptional real time. You're in charge of a team of 6 mercenaries and must find a way to complete your missions, be it infiltrating an enemy fortress, saving a team member or escaping an ambush... Combine the different skills of your 6 heroes to lead them to victory.

The Story

El Paso, a typical Wild West town in the southwestern United States near the Mexican border. It is the year 1881. For the last few months, the trains belonging to the famous railroad company, Twinnings & Co have been the target of a whole series of hold-ups and ambushes. The management of the company has decided enough is enough and they have to put an end to the raids. It has offered a reward of $15,000 for anyone who captures the leader of the gang responsible. 

But no one in and around El Paso has the courage to take on the might of the bandidos, so the outlaws just keep on robbing train after train. Even the local Marshal is keeping well out of it. 

It’s only when a stranger rides into town that things start to change. Bounty hunter John Cooper pays a visit to the local Twinnings & Co manager offering to end the railroad company’s problems once and for all. He gathers together a gang of his old partners and declares war on the bandidos. But during his pursuit, which will take him through half of the southwestern United States, Cooper soon discovers that on this mission nothing is quite what it seems...

A great and difficult game

A game that reminded me as a mix of Commandos and Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood. The way the enemy starts investigating or tells others if a fellow guard is not at his usual post is so good. Loved that in the Robin Hood game. The game to me felt more difficult as you truly had to plan things out and using the queue up for actions helps a lot. The game has its issues at times when the AI could bug out and you had no chance to progress so make sure to save. Happened 2-3 times in my playthrough of the game. Had no issues with the game otherwise. Can easily recommend this one.

Great game, even today!

I loved Commandos but never tried Desperados as it wasn't really the setting I liked. However, many years later I craved Commandos again and started playing it through steam. I aged badly so I really hoped there would be a real time strategy game like that again- luckily Mimimi Games brought us Blades of the Shogun- loving their work I got Desperados 3 and it was just purely amazing! So, now I'm again stuck waiting- so I got Desperados and what can I say? Sure, the graphics are dated- but the controls, gamedesign and overall gameplay are just pure joy! I wished I played it back then as well. You played it back then? It is still amazing! You liked modern games of this genre? I will love it! Highly recommended!

Average Commandos-like game

I was very excited to play this game when they released it back in the day, since I am a big fan of Commandos series (mostly 1 and 2, not so crazy about Commandos 3). However, although the mechanics of the game are similar, they are not as smooth, and it feels very clumsy all the time. Please note that I'm not referring to difficulty here, I have played harder games that were more pleasing to play. For me, this game is more like a good idea with an average execution. However, if you're a fan of this type of game and like westerns, you might enjoy it anyway.

trial and error

I don't know if I'm too bad, to stupid or so but I have no fun with this game. I loved Commandos and his gameplay. Please don't understand me wrong this game is good, but I think to hard, too much trial and error and I haven't time enough for this. Now I'm in level 16 and I'm so angry to this game. I will simply finish this game but I think this will take too long. Sorry.

Terrible performance Windows 10

This game is still fun. But on Windows 10 the performance of gog version is just terrible. When scrolling the screen stutters and I can't find a fix anywhere. Isn't the point of gog to be able to run old games on new systems without issues?
