5/8 Greatness, 3/8 Misery

Desperados is an excellent game marred by all the worst characteristics of the RTS genre. At its best it pushes you to utilize many different strategies. At its worst it is a hopelessly frustrating click-fest. I can't help but recommend it for the excellence of it's good parts, but that's not to say it doesn't have some considerable flaws. CONS: Your characters have no AI of their own, so unless you're telling them what to do at all times, they stand immobile like masterless puppets. They won't even defend themselves when attacked. No active pause (barring use of the TIMELESS cheat code, which I recommend) means you cannot issue orders to your characters while the action is stopped. You have up to six characters in your party at one time, and you're supposed to control them all simultaneously while battling dozens of enemies in real-time. It can be a nightmare. PROS: Great Old West setting backed up by sumptuous graphics. The character movements and backgrounds are similar to what you might have seen in games like Baldur's Gate. They look superb and really immerse you into the game. During the course of the game you gather a party of six characters. All are interesting, charismatic individuals with unique abilities. This allows you to use them together in many different combinations to achieve your objectives.

Best Western Game ever made

Beautifully created backgrounds, loads of levels, striking if stereotypical hero selection and a score that puts even Ennio Morricone to shame. This forgotten jewel ticks all the boxes of a great wild west gunslinger game! Don't be fooled. This game is unforgiving. The enemys are smart (even in various degrees) and much tougher than you. You will have to quick load a lot of times but if you get it right there is hardly a better feeling of accomplishment. The people behind the game even went this far to create a big demo level which was not even included in the final product but thankfully THQ Nordic put it back in, along with full Win 10 Support and 7 choosable languages. You can't really go wrong here, especially when the game is on sale. Give this masterpiece of game design and music a chance. It will definately be worth you time and money.

As good as i remembered

Followed Good4Games2019 advice (review is here on GOG) and this game works perfect on my windows 10 computer. I must admit that i have a lot of nostalgia for this game and i am a bit biased because i played it a hell of a lot when i was a kid so now 15-18 years later i played it for the first time again. And goddamn this game is still as good as i remember. Hard but rewarding tactical gameplay. You can really play around with different tactics. Love the atmosphere and soundtrack. Sometimes when you visit an old game that you played when you where a kid it isn't the same feeling but in this case i played 18 hours this weekend and i had so much fun. Love this game.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Linux)

Dive into a Spaghetti Western like game with an intricate gameplay steering six different characters with their unique abilities! Well, this game is way over 20 years old and its graphics may appear UGLY to some modern gamer – but not to me! I like the style, you can see how much love they put into it considering the means of their time. The BAD thing with this game is that it is extremely hard to play, at least for my experience. I never played a game where had to use the auto save function (F5) so often. But it's there and only a click away. This hard and complex gameplay is also the GOOD thing, you really need to think about what you are doing and reading the extensive manual doesn't hurt to learn the hotkeys. But the game is cleverly made, you start with one character and will be introduced to the others step by step during the game by means of short tutorial missions. I found myself overwhelmed by the amount of information and controls whilst reading the manual, but if you start playing, you'll see that they are well-thought of and easy to adjust to. Unfortunately, there's still a bug in mission three, introducing Sam and his skills with the Gatling gun. You've got to do some actions before the wagon drops, otherwise the mouse cursor vanishes and you can't play further. See more on the forums how to circumvent this. Under Linux, you might have to install some libraries which are not included in the standard repositories, depending on your system. But it's easy enough via PPAs if you're running Ubuntu. Those two issues made me consider of removing a star but because the gameplay is so fantastic I gave the best note to the game anyways. Its atmosphere is highly immersive, from the second level on. So if you're not to picky about high-standard graphics and want to play a sophisticated gunslinger game, here you are!

Doesnt work on win 8

do not buy this for win 8, it lags constantly, makes the game unplayable.... great game though!
