Descent

Because few things were better than installing 20 copies of descent in the computer center and competing for hours between work on papers and study. The game made a few folks sick, but we were OK with that, and politely sat in the back of the room where other people's guts wouldn't be turned.

I got a trial copy of this game with our 486 It instantly became my favorite and once I got past the trial(I was 10) I had to have the whole game! The dynamics are unlike any game to date( I have over 200 games on steam). You play a mercenary in a prototype space ship, and your mission is to clear various mines where the local robots have gone bonkers and are threatening earth! the soundtracks were also my intro to techno and are composed by artists like skinny puppy... the second game really stands out in that you have a guide bot that takes you through the level if you get stuck and they doubled the weapons .... My only gripe is that this download does not have the vertigo expansion ( hint GOG hint). Any way if you are new to the series and are willing to put up with old graphics strap in for some fun in a cult classic .

The title says it all. I really love this game! I just wanted to tell everyone to download and play this game using DXX-rebirth! It really brings this game to life!

I came upon an old Descent 1 disk when I was a kid without knowing what it was while checking out a friends collection of 'junk'. A year later I got my first working PC and tried it out. I was mesmerized. I remember playing it, winning at it and putting it down for awhile but I would ALWAYS come back to play again. I eventually lost the disk and I've gone through a few PC's since then. But now I finally get to play a gem from my past once more. And to top it off I get the sequel as well, which I've never had a chance to try out. Thanks GOG.com you're the best!

Great fun. This is basically a Doom-like FPS, only it's in three dimensions. Recommend fan-made enhancements to really get the most out of this (ie, better graphics). Sadly, later levels of Descent 1 get exponentially, absurdly difficult, and I haven't pushed past them. I'd still recommend this game. They haven't made anything quite like it since. Trying to make your way through the maze to the exit after you've set off the self-destruct is pulse-pounding and thrilling!
