Avoid like the zombie apocalypse

The first hour is actually kind of fun. From then on the game gets worse and worse. The controls (I played with gamepad) are absolutely terrible when you have to act quick: Climbing over a wall and getting stuck on one side, clunky melee combat, etc. 90% of your deaths are caused by the bad controls. Also, this game is a bit buggy. Sometimes when you die, the game does not reset correctly to the last checkpoint. In my case there was just an empty scene, showing only the background graphics. I had to kill the game process and restart the game. The story is your absolute standard zombie story with zero surprises. Very disappointed, I'm glad I got this game for free during a GOG sale.

A must if you love the original PoP

The game really feels like a modern approach to Prince of Persia. Most of the mechanics is there and then some. The gameplay is quite rewarding although a bit frustrating at times - some places you just have to go thorugh by trial and error. Although it features firearms you won't be using them very often. The ammo is scarce so you'd stick to your axe for most of the time. Which is good - it feels like the post-apo times when you have to manage your resources carefully. There is something off with the health mechanics - I usually quickly lose most of health points then play with just one point up to the next first aid kit. But maybe that's me and my style of playing. I know that people complain a bit about controls but they feel very similar (up to the "lag" with some actions) to Prince of Persia or Flashback so you could say that they fit in the genre. The mouse shooting somehow doesn't feel well done. Something doesn't feel right about it. The overall story is simple but gives you the needed motivation to go on. The game is not very long but pretty well done (although I had one spot when the game would go black screen on me; but when I passed it on fourth or fifth try, the issue didn't persist). I like the graphics. For a platformer (and the game is a platformer after all) they are very nicely done and dynamic. The fight feels a bit weird. It needs a lot of getting used to to get the hang of using the axe properly and compensate for its inertia and your dropping stamina. You learn that after all but at the beginning can be tiresome and you die often because of the fighting. So I remove one star for those little annoyances but the game is worth playing especially if bought with a discount (at the moment it's -80%)

Not quite...

The atmosphere is good. The artstyle is good. The gameplay is okay as well. But... As others have said: it is way too short. Not to mention how finicky it is. It blends certain elements into the background, so you will spend a good 4-5 minutes looking for the tini-tiny hole you can crawl into, just because it does not look like anything. The game is NOT HARD, but annoying.

LIMBO, only vastly inferior

(played this on Steam) Abysmal. A LIMBO-inspired zombie apocalypse platformer with some of the worst controls found in the genre, following Bubsy 3D. LIMBO's strength was never in its gameplay; this was apparently lost on the developers, who based Deadlight's mechanics and flow on Limbo (trial-and-error platforming on a wonky physics engine), but forgot to add any of the charm or striking aesthetics. If you make the mistake of picking this up, be warned that you will be required to die a ton and none of it will have anything to do with challenge. You will die, because its trial-and-error design does not provide the necessary hints on how to proceed, until after you've seen yourself impaled on a spike for the 50th time. You will die, because the controls are bottom-tier garbage, on a gamepad no less, with the player character wobbling around every time you need precision. There's nothing for you here, expect frustration and tedium. As if that wasn't enough, the save system of the game is busted. The Continue option keeps loading the wrong level and even though Chapters unlock properly in their dedicated menu, the checkpoints don't; so you better hope you didn't have to quit after a chapter started. No and go away. There is nothing to be gained by playing this, outside of frustration for a short-lived experience that has none of the charm of the game it's mechanically inspired from.

Limbo with zombies

Very good gameplay, story and atmosphere. Character sometimes react a bit strange to input when climbing and fighting, but overall its fine. Feels like Limbo but with zombies and a bit of Max Payne too.
